SUFFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL

HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 SECTION 65(1) AND SECTION 66(4)

NOTICE OF INTENT TO CONVERT FOOTWAY TO CYCLETRACK ON BECCLES ROAD (A146), LOWESTOFT

Suffolk County Council proposes to create a shared unsegregated cycle track at Beccles Road, Lowestoft.

The footway, approximately 59.50 metres in length, runs along the southeastern side of Beccles Road (A146) from its junction with Clarkes Lane (U5078).

The new unsegregated cycle track will link the existing cycle facility at the junction of Clarkes Lane to the new toucan crossing on Beccles Road, which will be installed to provide a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists to cross Beccles Road and provide a safer access route to Carlton Marshes nature reserve.

The existing footway between the junction of Clarkes Lane heading northeast towards the new Toucan crossing will be widened to 3.00 metres (minimum) in width to accommodate the use of cyclists.

There is also a small section of segregated cycle/footway from the end of Clarkes Lane to Beccles Road which may be converted to unsegregated for a total of 9.50 metres. This is to enable cyclists travelling along Beccles Road to continue across Clarkes Lane to the new route without crossing the segregation line.

A map showing the location of the and the council’s reasons for this proposal may be inspected in writing to Suffolk County Council Legal Services at the address below or by emailing: highwayslegal@suffolk.gov.uk

. Representations can also be sent to us by post or email no later than 26/09/2025. Please note that any such correspondence cannot be confidential and may be inspected by any interested party.
