M1 Motorway, Junction 46 and 47 - Temporary Restriction and Prohibition to Traffic

THE M1 MOTORWAY
(JUNCTION 47 TO JUNCTION 46) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND
PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway, in the County of West Yorkshire, to enable carriageway resurfacing, repair and inspection, machine and general surveys, structure maintenance and inspection, loop cutting, white lining, road stud replacement, gully emptying, carriageway sweeping, sign maintenance and inspection, communication equipment maintenance and inspection, safety
barrier inspections and repair, grass cutting and weed spraying, street lighting repairs and inspection and general maintenance, magnetometer installation and maintenance and drainage works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Thursday 9 October 2025 for 4 nights, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, between 8pm and 6am, to close the M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 46 (Austhorpe
Interchange) to the entry slip road at Junction 46, a distance of 2062 metres.
During the closure suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.
It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, to impose a temporary 50 mph speed restriction on the M1:
(i) southbound carriageway from the entry slip road at Junction 47 (Parlington interchange) to the entry slip road at Junction 46, a distance of 4850 metres; and
(ii) southbound exit slip road at Junction 46. Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter
maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 8th October 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
