Essex - Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions

What is happening?

Essex County Council

(Broxted Road, Thaxted) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) &

(Grove Hill, Stansted) (Temporary Suspension of 7.5 Tonne Weight Restriction) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

1. To temporarily close that length of Broxted Road, Thaxted in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 340m north east of its junction with Stanbrook Road for a distance of approximately 60m in a north easterly direction.

2. To temporarily suspend the 7.5T weight restriction entering Grove Hill, Stansted from Lower Street as cited in the “The Essex County Council (B1051 Grove Hill, Stansted Mountfitchet) (Weight Restriction) Order 1987” for the duration of the closures only.

The closure/suspension is scheduled to commence on 29th September 2025 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP20102338988 — Essex County Council).

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.

The closure/suspension is required for the safety of the public and workforce while bridge investigation works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route is available via B1051, B184, B1256, A120, B1383, B1051 and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 11th September 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Cornells Lane, Widdington)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Cornells Lane, Widdington in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 710m south east of its junction with High Street for a distance of approximately 450m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 29th September 2025 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30088874416 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while tree cutting works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

No alternative route is available.

The Order will come into effect on 11th September 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Cornells Lane, Widdington in the District of Uttlesford, from its junction with High Street for a distance of approximately 520m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 30th September 2025 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30015454830 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while tree cutting works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

No alternative route is available.

The Order will come into effect on 11th September 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Hertford Lane, Elmdon)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Hertford Lane, Elmdon in the District of Uttlesford, from a point approximately 600m south east of its junction with Mill Causeway for a distance of approximately 45m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 2nd October 2025 for 9 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP20198558123 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while culvert strengthening and repairs works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route is available via Hertford Lane, Heydon Lane, High Street, Essex Hill, B1039, Hollow Road, High Street, The Green, Crawley End Road, Mill Causeway, Hertford Lane and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 11th September 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Mill Road, Henham)

(Temporary Introduction of a 30mph Speed Restriction) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily introduce a 30mph speed restriction in that length of Mill Road, Henham in the District of Uttlesford from a point approximately 150m north west of its junction with Henham Road for a distance of approximately 250m in a north westerly direction. The restriction is scheduled to commence on 15th September 2025 for 78 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP40040500321 – Bellway Homes). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The restriction is required for the safety of the public and workforce while temporary construction access works are undertaken by Bellway Homes.

The Order came into effect on 28th August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Nettleditch, Littlebury)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Nettleditch, Littlebury in the District of Uttlesford, from its junction with Cambridge Road for a distance of approximately 365m in a south westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 17th September 2025 for 1 night (22:00-06:00), or where stated on a valid permit (KL701BGK-44-21-170925 – Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while bridge examination works are undertaken by Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd.

An alternative route is available via B1383, Littlebury Green Road, Strethall Road, Littlebury Green Road, Chalk Pit Lane, Catmere End, Batts Lane, Strethall Road, Menton Place, Nettleditch and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 28th August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Various Roads, District of Uttlesford)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) (No.15) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

1. To temporarily close that length of road in the District of Uttlesford as specified in the schedule.

2. A temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction will be introduced on both sides of carriageway on the above length of road for the duration of the closure to facilitate the works. Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting restriction will be in force.

“The Essex County Council (Uttlesford District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above length of road only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The works being undertaken will take place within an 18-month period from 28th August 2025; exact dates will be specified on one.network. The road will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.
