Footpath 215, Marple - Temporary Closure For Works
What is happening?
THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF STOCKPORT
(FOOTPATH 215, MARPLE) (TEMPORARY CLOSURE) NOTICE 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport proposes to make an Order not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which will be to introduce a Temporary Closure of Footpath 215, Marple (Peak Forest Canal Towpath), for its complete length between the swing bridge carrying Footpath 174 Marple and the borough boundary, whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the said footpath. This Order is necessary to allow the Canals and Rivers Trust to complete necessary works on the canal. It is estimated that the maximum duration of the works will be 6 months. A diversion will be provided from the swing bridge following Footpath 174 Marple to Turf Lea Road, then south on Turf Lea Road and continuing onto Footpath 169 Marple, which becomes Cheshire Footpath 18 then 64 leading back to the towpath at Little Woodend Bridge. This Order is to come into operation on 5 October 2025 and will have effect for six months, provided that if all necessary works are completed within a shorter period this Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.
