Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A34 Trunk Road in the County of Oxfordshire and the Unitary Authority of West Berkshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to:-
authorise the overnight closure of the southbound carriageway of the A34 between Milton Interchange (A4130) and Chilton Junction (A4185), all roads leading to and from this length of carriageway, and 24-hour closure of the adjacent cycle track;
authorise the 24-hour closure of all of the lay-bys adjacent to the carriageway described in 1) above;
impose a 24-hour 50mph restriction on the southbound carriageway of the A34 between a point approximately 506 metres north of Cow Lane overbridge and a point approximately 100 metres south of Reading Road (A417) overbridge; and
impose a 24-hour width restriction of 3.25 metres in lane 1 and 2.75 metres in lane 2 on the southbound carriageway of the A34 between a point approximately 320 metres north of Didcot Road overbridge and a point approximately 33 metres north of Reading Road (A417) overbridge.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake lay-by alterations and all associated works.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 8 months starting on or after Monday 29th September 2025. The overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). Please consult National Highways website for details of all closures.
The Order would come into force on 27th September 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using the A4130 and the A4185.
The temporary closures, speed limit, narrow lanes and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
