Durham, Amendment To Existing Pedestrian Zone & No Loading Restrictions

What is happening?

THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF DURHAM

(DURHAM CITY NORTH EAST) (PARKING AND WAITING RESTRICTIONS) CONSOLIDATION ORDER 2015

(AMENDMENT NO. 1) ORDER 2025

On 1/9/2025 the Council made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 32 & 35 & Part IV of Sch. 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”), as amended, the effect of which comes into operation on 15/9/2025 and will Amend the operating hours of the existing ‘Pedestrian Zone, No Vehicles’ restrictions at:-

Durham Market Place, from ‘Pedestrian Zone, No Vehicles’ from 10am – 4pm to ‘Pedestrian Zone, No Vehicles’ 10am – 4pm and 10pm – 4am.

Silver Street, from ‘Pedestrian Zone, No Vehicles’ from 10am – 6pm to ‘Pedestrian Zone, No Vehicles’ 10am – 4pm and 10pm – 4am and

Elvet Bridge, from ‘Pedestrian Zone, No Vehicles’ from 10am – 6pm to 10am – 2am and

Amend the operating hours of the existing ‘No loading’ restriction at:-

Durham Market Place, from ‘no loading’ between 10am – 4pm, to ‘no loading’ between 10am – 4pm and 10pm – 4am.

Silver Street, from ‘no loading’ between 10am – 6pm, to ‘no loading’ between 10am – 4pm and 10pm – 4am.

Elvet Bridge, from ‘no loading’ between 10am – 6pm, to ‘no loading’ between 10am – 2am.

It will also correct and administrative error to Article 42(6) removing reference to Article 29. Full details are contained in the sealed Order which may be via the council website and at Durham County Library during normal opening hours. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Orders or of any provisions contained in them on the grounds that they are not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any regulation made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Orders may, within six weeks from 1/9/2025 apply to make an application for that purpose to the High Court.
