York – Multiple Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions due to Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 28 August 2025 in respect of the location numbered (1). Additionally, the Council made an order on Thursday, 04 September 2025 in respect of the location numbered (2). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the location numbered (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8) & (9).

(1) PROW 55/2/10 NORTH STREET GARDENS TO OUSE BRIDGE (CONTINUATION), YORK

This Order prohibits pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of public footpath on PROW 55/2/10 North Street Gardens to Ouse Bridge, York between locations 50 metres and 90 metres north of its junction with Bridge Street (closed public right of way) during the period when structural defect works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Wednesday, 03 September 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Tuesday, 03 February 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure public safety. This Order continues the temporary road closure Notice which had an end date of 2359hrs on Tuesday, 02 September 2025.

(2) DARLING LANE, MOOR END & MILL LANE, ACASTER MALBIS

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of (i) on Darling Lane, Moor End & Mill Lane, Acaster Malbis (i) on Darling Lane between its junctions with Broad Lane to Temple Lane and Mill Lane and (ii) on Moor End between its junctions with Cowper Lane and Mill Lane and (iii) on Mill Lane between its junctions with Darling Lane and Hauling Lane (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Monday, 08 September 2025 and ending at 1500hrs on Tuesday, 09 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said work can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0900hrs and 1500hrs each day of the works period. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for vehicles will be signed during the works period via Mill Lane, Intake Lane, Broad Lane, Broad Lane to Temple Lane, Cowper Lane.

(3) BACK LANE BETWEEN 93 AND 119 HUNTINGTON ROAD, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane Between 93 and 119 Huntington Road, York between its junction with Kitchener Street and a location 26 metres south of said junction (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 15 September 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Tuesday, 16 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1800hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Kitchener Street, Huntington Road, Ashville Street.

(4) ALLEN CLOSE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Allen Close, York between locations 10 metres and 43 metres south of its junction with Alcuin Avenue (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Monday, 15 September 2025 and ending at 1500hrs on Tuesday, 16 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0900hrs and 1500hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.

(5) BACK LANE BETWEEN HANOVER STREET WEST AND STAMFORD STREET EAST, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane between Hanover Street West and Stamford Street East, York between the projected western boundaries of property no’s 32 & 41 Hanover Street West (closed road) during the period when sewer repair works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 15 September 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 19 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(6) NABURN LANE, DEIGHTON, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Naburn Lane, Deighton, York between its junction with A19 York Road and a location 476 metres west of said junction (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 15 September 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 19 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A19 York Road, Naburn Lane, Naburn Lane, York Road, Moor Lane.

(7) WHELDRAKE LANE, CROCKEY HILL

This Order restricts vehicles to a 30 miles per hour (mph) speed limit on that length of road on Wheldrake Lane, Crockey Hill between a point 165 metres west of the boundary of the property named South View and a point 165 metres east of said projected boundary (restricted road) during the period when water supply works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 15 September 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 19 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

(8) HULL ROAD, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Hull Road, York between its junctions with A64 (Grimston Bar) and Green Dykes Lane (closed road) during the period when carriageway resurfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 15 September 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Saturday, 25 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the works will only take place between 2000hrs and 0600hrs each night of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Foss Islands Road, Heworth Green, Malton Road, A64.

(9) ST PAULS SQUARE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on St Pauls Square, York between the projected northern boundary of property no’s 9 & 12 (closed road) during the period when crane works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 16 September 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 19 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, all on-street parking spaces are suspended on both sides of St Paul’s Square between the projected southern boundaries of property no’s 1 and 10 and on both sides of Watson Terrace between its junctions with Watson Street and St Pauls Square (restricted roads). R60 residential parking permit holders will need to park elsewhere in zone R60.

This temporary Order will not prohibit works or emergency service vehicles or prohibit access to premises provided that access/egress can be maintained and works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barricading will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
