Ramsay Brow and Wilson Street, Workington - Temporary Road Closures due to Infrastructure Works

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL

(A66 RAMSAY BROW AND U2679 WILSON STREET, WORKINGTON)

(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable works in relation to the Workington Gateway Scheme to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council has made an Order the effect of which is to:-

1. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along that section of the A66 Ramsay Brow, Workington, from its junction with the A596, extending in an easterly direction for approx. 40m.

Duration: From 12 September 2025 for 4 consecutive weekends.

A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted section of the A66, A595 and A596.

2. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along that section of Wilson Street, Workington from its junction with Ramsay Brow extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 80m.

Duration: From 12 September 2025 until 31 March 2026.

A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted section of Wilson Street, Curwen Street and Ramsay Brow.

N.B. To facilitate access/egress to and from Wilson Street, Workington during the restrictions detailed above, the existing one-way traffic restriction on that section of Wilson Street from its junction with Curwen Street extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 20 metres will be temporarily suspended.

3. Prohibit any vehicle exceeding 40 feet/12.19 metres in length from proceeding along that section of the A66 Ramsay Brow, Workington, from its junction with the A596, extending in an easterly direction for approx. 40m.

Duration: From 12 September 2025 until 31 March 2026.

Alternative Routes for vehicles exceeding 40 feet/12.19 metres in length will be signed and available as follows:

(i) via the A66, A595 and A596; and

(ii) for those vehicles approaching Fitz Roundabout and wishing to access the Port of Workington and Holmen Iggesund – via the A66, A595, A594 and A596.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 12 September 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months.

However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction is expected to be in place until 31 March 2026, as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
