Hertfordshire - Multiple Temporary Road Closures due to Works
What is happening?
HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:
(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF A1000 HERTFORD ROAD, DIGSWELL) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of A1000 Hertford Road, Digswell from its junction with the A1000 Bessemer Road roundabout north westwards for a distance of approximately 688m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via A1000 (Bessemer Road/Mundells/Bessemer Road/Broadwater Road), A6129 (Broadwater Road/Stanborough Road), B653 Stanborough Road, B197 (Great North Road/Digswell Hill/Welwyn Bypass Road), A1000 (Welwyn Bypass Road/Hertford Road) or via A1000 (Bessemer Road/Mundells/Bessemer Road/Broadwater Road), A6129 (Broadwater Road/Stanborough Road), the A1(M) and A1000 (Welwyn Bypass Road/Hertford Road).
The Order is needed because bridge works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 19 September 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF COWARDS LANE AND NEW TOWN, CODICOTE) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”):-
1. that length of Cowards Lane, Codicote from its junction with B656 High Street south westwards and north westwards for a distance of approximately 40m.
An alternative route will be via B656 High Street, St Albans Road and Cowards Lane.
2. that length of New Town, Codicote from its southernmost junction with B656 High Street north eastwards to its junction with Valley Road South, a distance of approximately 27m.
An alternative route will be via B656 High Street and New Town.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 22 September 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CHURCH LANE, NORTHAW) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Church Lane, Northaw from a point 76m north east of its junction with B156 Northaw Road West north eastwards for a distance of approximately 30m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via Church Lane, B156 Northaw Road West, Vineyards Road, Vicarage Close and Church Lane.
The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 5 September 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.
