LONDON BOROUGH OF NEWHAM

Article Amendment To Newham Healthy School Streets Orders

The Newham (Healthy School Streets) (Exemption Amendment) Order 2025

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Newham ('the Council') on 1st September 2025 made the above-mentioned Order under sections 6 and 124 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

2. The general effect of the Order will be to remove 'for the purpose of any building operations' from the list of exemptions in all Healthy School Streets Orders. This will allow the council to consider any application for an exemption for access to any part-time pedestrian and cycle zone for the purpose of any building works to be assessed on an individual basis. This will also have the effect of updating the wording of certain articles to give consistency across all the Healthy School Streets Orders.

3. Copies of the Order, which will come into force on 8th September 2025 and documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order are available for inspection by appointment during normal office hours at Newham Dockside, 1000 Dockside Road, E16 2QU, by telephoning 020 3373 6415 or by emailing: traffic.orders@newham.gov.uk, for a period of six weeks from the date on which the Order was made.

4. If any person wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act, or that any requirement of the Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with, that person may, within six weeks from the date on which the Order is made, apply for the purpose to the High Court.
