Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh - Temporary Road Restrictions

What is happening?

THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

(CANDLEMAKER ROW) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025 – TEMP/25/90

The Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period to facilitate carriageway resurfacing and drainage improvement works, no person shall: (a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on any part of (i) Candlemaker Row (ii) Merchant St at Candlemaker Row & (iii) Greyfriars at Candlemaker Row and (b) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait or load onto or unload from any vehicle at any time on both sides of: (i) Candlemaker Row (ii) Merchant St from the east kerbline of Candlemaker Row eastwards for 40m and (iii) Greyfriars. Existing parking restrictions may be suspended on the affected sections of road described in (b). The prohibition of vehicles on Marshall St has been suspended from 19:00hrs on 08/09/25 to 06:00hrs on 21/09/25, to allow general vehicular traffic. The alternative route for general vehicular traffic with respect to the closure of Candlemaker Row is: George IV Bridge, Chambers St, South Bridge, Nicolson Sq, Marshall St, Potterrow, Lauriston Pl, Lady Lawson St, West Port and Grassmarket; and for buses and pedal cycles is: Grassmarket, West Port, Lauriston St, Lauriston Pl and Forrest Rd. There is no available diversion with respect to the closures of Merchant St and Greyfriars, where local access will be maintained.

The Order shall have effect from 08/09/25 to 21/09/25.
