What is happening?

CITY OF BRISTOL 

(ASHTON VALE ROAD, ASHTON, BRISTOL) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES) ORDER 2025 

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended have made an Order the effect of which is to close, temporarily, to vehicles that length of Ashton Vale Road which extends from Ashton Gate Underpass south westwards for 32 metres. 

The Order was required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road and becomes operative from 11th October 2025 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closure may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which are anticipated to take place between 11.00 p.m. on 11th October 2025 and 03.45 a.m. on 13th October 2025). 

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: None – No through Road

(DEAN LANE, SOUTHVILLE, BRISTOL) (TEMPORARY ONE WAY TRAFFIC) (TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF WEIGHT LIMIT) ORDER 2025 

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended have made an Order the effect of which is:- 

1. to introduce, temporarily, one way traffic working in a southerly direction in Dean Lane from Coronation Road to Southville Road; and 

2. to suspend, temporarily, when appropriate signs are covered the prohibition of vehicles over 7.5 tonnes maximum gross weight limit in operation in lengths of Catherine Mead Street and Dean Lane, so as to give effect to the alternative route as a consequence of item 1. above. Exemption will be provided in the Order for pedal cycles. The Order was required because of the likelihood of danger to the public on or near the road due to a history of road safety incidents and becomes operative from 8th September 2025 for a maximum period of eighteen months. 

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: Dean Lane (part unaffected), Catherine Mead Street, Lombard Street, St. Johns Road, Coronation Road 

(VARIOUS ROADS, CITY CENTRE, BRISTOL) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES) (TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF PROHIBITED MOVEMENTS) (TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF ONE WAY TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025 

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended have made an Order the effect of which is: 

1. to close, temporarily, to vehicles the lengths of roads as specified in the Schedule to this Notice; 

2. to suspend, temporarily, when appropriate signs are covered:- (a) the prohibitions of left turn from: 

(i) Colston Avenue (northern section) into Colston Avenue (southern section); and

(ii) Small Street into Colston Avenue (eastern section); (b) the prohibition of driving (except taxis) working in a length of Colston Avenue (eastern section); and

(c) the one way traffic working in:-
(i) a south easterly direction in Christmas Street
(ii) a south westerly direction in Colston Avenue (eastern section), from St. Stephens Street south westwards for 85 metres; and 
(iii) a north easterly direction in Nelson Street, from Christmas Street to Bridewell Street – so as to allow access and egress for works vehicles and give effect to the alternative routes in Schedule 2 to this Notice as a consequence of item 1. above. 

The Order was required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the roads and becomes operative from 8th September 2025 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the restrictions may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which are anticipated to take place between 8th September 2025 and 3rd October 2025). 

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES: North eastbound: Colston Avenue, Lewins Mead, The Haymarket, St. James Barton Roundabout, The Haymarket, Bridewell Street South westbound: Rupert Street, Colston Avenue 

SCHEDULE – Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles
Christmas Street – from Rupert Street to Nelson Street
Nelson Street – from Christmas Street to Bridewell Street
Quay Street – from Small Street to Christmas Street
