Consett, Temporary Road Closures Due To Carriageway Resurfacing Works

What is happening?

(Aynsley Terrace, Barr House Avenue, Cleadon Street, Stephen Street, Consett) (Temporary Road Closure)

Order 2025

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road and any abutting junctions with the roads. Aynsley Terrace: A 200 metre length that extends north from its junction with Park Road/Newmarket Street to and including the junction with Barr House Avenue; Barr House Avenue: A 142 metre length between its junction with Aynsley Terrace and Medomsley Road; Cleadon Street: a 70 metre length from and including its junction with Stephen Street north to the junction with Barr House Avenue and Beverley Street and Stephen Street: A 90 metre length between its junctions with Aynsley Terrace and Cleadon Street to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the north western side of the closure, from Aynsley Terrace north on The Promenade then east on A691 Durham Road, south on Medomsley Road (to the north eastern side of the closure), south west on B6322 John Street, north west on Victoria Road and north on Bertha Street to Park Road, to the south western side of the closure and vice versa (from Newmarket Street).

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on Monday 15/9/2025 and are anticipated to be completed by 8 days, between 7am-7pm (with no works on Sunday 21/9/2025). Access/egress will be managed on site. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
