THE A830 TRUNK ROADS (BANAVIE AND CORPACH) (TEMPORARY 20MPH AND 30MPH SPEED RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2023
NOTICE OF DIRECTION UNDER SECTION 15(3) OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
THE SCOTTISH MINISTERS have directed that, as they propose to make provision to reproduce the effect of The A830 Trunk Roads (Banavie and Corpach) (Temporary 20mph and 30mph Speed Restrictions) Order 2023 (S.S.I. 301) but that in consequence of the procedure required to be followed in connection with making that provision it cannot come into operation until the temporary order ceases to be in force, the temporary order shall continue in force.
The order has the effect of temporarily imposing 20mph and 30mph speed restrictions on the following lengths of road:
20mph Speed Limit
That length of the A830 Fort William - Mallaig Trunk Road at Corpach from a point 12.5 metres west of the extended western kerb line of Farrow Drive to a point approximately 77 metres west of the extended western kerb line of Hillview Drive, a total distance of 600 metres or thereby.
30mph Speed Limit
That length of the A830 Fort William - Mallaig Trunk Road from its junction with the A82 Dalnottar to Inverness Trunk Road, including the Blar Mhor roundabout, in a westerly direction to a point 42 metres west of the extended western kerb line of the west entrance to the Saw Mill, Corpach, a distance of 4.557 kilometres or thereby.
The order, which was required for the interest of road safety was in operation from 1st November 2023 and would have expired on 1st May 2025. On 29th April 2025, the Scottish Ministers issued a direction under section 15(3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 continuing the order in force until 1st September 2025. On 13th August 2025, the Scottish Ministers issued a further direction under section 15(3) continuing the order in force until 1st March 2026, unless a further direction under section 15(3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 is given, or the order is revoked or amended.
The Order does not apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations; or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

An alternative route is not required.
