Reading, Multiple Roads, Temporry Closures Due To Various Works

What is happening?

READING BOROUGH COUNCIL

(CHURCH STREET, READING) (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council intend to make an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily close the length of Church Street, Reading from its junction with London Street for approx. 27m. If made, the Order will come into force from 8-11 September 2025. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary to facilitate water connection works. A signed pedestrian diversion route will be in place throughout.

(WHITLEY STREET) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council intend to make an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily suspend the parking bays outside numbers 37-39 Whitley Street and impose a no stopping, waiting or loading/unloading restriction within those bays. If made, the Order will come into force from 10-11 September 2025. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary to facilitate cabling works.

(OXFORD ROAD) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily impose the following restrictions on Oxford Road:

  • Suspension of the westbound bus lane from the junction with Bedford Road to the junction with Prospect Street.

  • Suspension of the parking bays from outside numbers 179A-181 and the loading bays from outside numbers 181A-183.

  • Introduce a no stopping or waiting at any time restriction from outside numbers 179A-183.

The Order will come into force on 3 September 2025. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary to carry out repairs to a chamber set within the carriageway.

(TILEHURST RD) (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily close Tilehurst Rail Bridge from Tilehurst Road to its junction with Western Elms Avenue for an approximate length of 30m eastwards. The Order will come into force from 30-31 August 2025 between 22:00-08:00 hrs. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary to allow safety inspections of the retaining walls to be carried out. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout.

(A329 RELIEF RD) (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily close A329 Relief Rd at its junction with Bridge St roundabout. The Order will come into force from 4-5 September 2025 between 00:01-06:00 hrs and from 5-6 September 2025 between 20:00-05:00 hrs. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary to allow the placement of mobile elevating work platform for telecommunication works on the Anchorage building. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout.
