East and West Sussex - Temporary Speed Restrictions and Lay-by Closures due to Safety Measures and Road Maintenance

A27 TRUNK ROAD – COLDEAN - HOUSEDEAN TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex and the Unitary Authority of the City of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, owing to the likelihood of danger to the public.

The effect of the Order would be to impose:-

  1. a 24-hour 50 mph speed restriction on the A27 –

    a) eastbound between points approximately 700 metres and 1100 metres east of Ditchling Road overbridge; and

    b) westbound between a point approximately 155 metres east of the South Downs Way overbridge (Housedean) and a point approximately 245 metres west of said overbridge; and

  2. a 24-hour 40 mph speed restriction on the A27 –

    a) eastbound between a point 1100 metres east of Ditchling Road overbridge and a point approximately 155 metres east of the South Downs Way overbridge (Housedean);

    b) westbound between a point approximately 245 metres west of South Downs Way overbridge (Housedean) and a point approximately 700 metres east of Ditchling Road overbridge; and

    c) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A27, from a point approximately 260 metres measured eastbound along the road from the crossroad junction with Stony Mere Way to its merge with the main carriageway.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety during the Boundary Park Festival and before and after as necessary.

The Order would come into force on 23rd September 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, expiring when the festival is over.

The temporary speed restrictions would be clearly indicated by traffic signs while it is in operation during the danger period.

A23 TRUNK ROAD (HICKSTEAD TO MUDDLESWOOD LAY-BYS AND BUS STOPS) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A23 Trunk Road in the County of West Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order is to authorise the 24-hour closure of all lay-bys and bus stops adjacent to both carriageways of the A23 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at Hickstead Interchange (A2300) and the tip of the nosing of the Muddleswood Interchange (B2117).

These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway repairs and lay-by rejuvenations and all associated works.

It is expected that the work will last for approximately 2 months starting at 12:00 on or after Wednesday 3rd September 2025.

The Order will come into force on the 1st September 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.

The temporary closures will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
