What is happening?
EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
The East Sussex (C40 High Street, Polegate)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
To allow Network Rail to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;
Temporary Road Closure
High Street – from the junction with U7267 Brook Street to the junction with U7342 Black Path.
A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C40 High Street – A2270 Eastbourne Road – A27(T) Eastbourne Road, Cop Hall roundabout– B2247 Hailsham Road – C40 High Street and vice versa.
The Order commences 14 September 2025 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on the following dates depending upon the weather conditions:
From 00:35hrs to 04:30hrs on 14 and 15 September 2025
From 22:00hrs to 05:00hrs between 3 and 5 November 2025

The East Sussex (A2021 Whitley Road, Eastbourne)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
To allow BT Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;
Temporary Road Closure
Whitley Road – from the junction with U2169 St Philips Avenue to the junction with U2170 Annington Road.
A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A2021 Whitley Road, Bedfordwell Road, Lewes Road, Prideaux Road, Kings Drive, Rodmill roundabout – A2280 Cross Levels Way, Upperton Farm roundabout, Cross Levels Way, Broadwater roundabout, Cross Levels Way – A22 Lottbridge roundabout – A2290 Lottbridge Drove, Birch roundabout, Lottbridge Drove – A259 Seaside roundabout, Seaside and vice versa.
The Order commences 31 August 2025 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 31 August 2025 depending upon the weather conditions.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
To allow Network Rail to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;
Temporary Road Closure
Wallsend Road – from the junction with A259 Eastbourne Road to the junction with A259 Bexhill Road.
A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic northbound via A259 Wallsend Road, Bexhill Road – A27 Pevensey Haven roundabout, Pevensey bypass, Dittons Road roundabout North – A22 Golden Jubilee Way, Dittons Road roundabout South, Golden Jubilee Way, Shinewater roundabout, Highfield Link, Lottbridge roundabout – A2290 Lottbridge Drove, Birch roundabout, Lottbridge Drove – A259 Seaside roundabout, Seaside, St Anthonys Avenue, Langney roundabout, Pevensey Bay Road, Crumbles roundabout, Pevensey Bay Road, Martello roundabout, Pevensey Bay Road, Eastbourne Road, Richmond Road and southbound via A259 Wallsend Road, Eastbourne Road, Pevensey Bay Road, Martello roundabout, Pevensey Bay Road, Crumbles roundabout, Pevensey Bay Road, Langney roundabout, St Anthonys Avenue, Seaside, Seaside roundabout – A2290 Lottbridge Drove, Birch roundabout, Lottbridge Drove – A22 Lottbridge roundabout, Highfield Link, Shinewater roundabout, Golden Jubilee Way, Dittons Road roundabout South, Golden Jubilee Way – A27 Dittons Road roundabout North, Pevensey bypass, Pevensey Haven roundabout – A259 Bexhill Road.

(Eastbourne Borough Consolidation) Order 2025
Amendment Order 202* No* (South Street Bus Stop Relocation Scheme)
Notice is hereby given that East Sussex County Council propose to make an Order under the relevant sections of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and of all other enabling powers, which will relocate the existing bus stop in South Street, Eastbourne, and amend associated parking places and waiting restrictions to facilitate public realm improvements:-
Removal of Bus stop clearway (No Stopping At Any Time Except Buses) in: South Street between Cornfield Terrace and Wish Road.
Removal of 24 metres of Parking bays (Permit Holders (zone G) or Pay and Display, Mon to Sat, 8am-6pm, Maximum stay 2 hours, no return within 1 hour) in: South Street between Hardwick Road and Wish Road.
Introduction of 25.5 metres of Parking bays (Permit Holders (zone G) or Pay and Display, Mon to Sat, 8am-6pm, Maximum stay 2 hours, no return within 1 hour) in: South Street between Cornfield Terrace and Wish Road.
Introduction of Bus stop clearway (No Stopping At Any Time Except Local Buses) in: South Street between Hardwick Road and Wish Road.
Introduction of one Disabled Persons Parking Place (Blue Badge Holders Only, Maximum stay 3 hours, no return within 2 hours) in: South Street between Cornfield Terrace and Wish Road.
