Byway open to all traffic LC296,
Rhayader – Monks Trod
Temporary Prohibition of Motor Vehicles and Horse Drawn Carriages
Powys County Council hereby gives notice
that it has extended an Order to temporarily close
byway open to all traffic LC296 Rhayader (the
Monks Trod) to motor vehicles, invalid carriages
and horse drawn vehicles from Carn Ricet (point
A) at OS grid ref SN 871,709 for approximately
6km to the county boundary with Ceredigion at
the River Claerwen (point B) at OS Grid Ref SN
823,682 to 1st March 2026 or sooner should
works have been completed. This is subject to the
exception below.

Mae Cyngor Sir Powys yn rhoi rhybudd drwy
hyn ei fod wedi ymestyn Gorchymyn i gau dros
dro y gilffordd sydd ar agor i bob traffig LC296
Rhaeadr Gwy (Llwybr y Mynaich) i gerbydau
modur, cerbydau pobl anabl a cherbydau a
dynnir gan geffylau o Garn Ricet (pwynt A) yng
nghyfeirnod grid yr OS SN 871,709 am ryw 6km i’r
ffin sirol â Cheredigion wrth Afon Claerwen (pwynt
B) yng nghyfeirnod grid yr OS SN 823,682 i 01
Mawrth 2026 neu’n gynt os bydd y gwaith wedi
gorffen. Mae hyn yn amodol ar yr eithriad isod.

The above closure has been undertaken due to
deterioration of the condition of the surface of the
byway. The Order will be revoked sooner if the
condition of the byway surface has been addressed.
Alternative route: No alternative route has been identified.
Exception:
Motorcycle access will be permitted to byway
LC296 from Carn Ricet (point A) at OS grid
ref SN871709 to the county boundary with
Ceredigion at the River Claerwen (point B) at OS
Grid Ref SN823682 for up to 3 (three) specified
days from 1st September 2022 for the duration
of the Order. These will be a combination of
designated permit days that are arranged and
overseen by the County Council; and by prior
arrangement with the Council, events run
under Regulation 5(c) of The Motor Vehicles
(Competitions and Trials) Regulations 1969 (also
known as a ‘Road Safety Rally.’) Permit days
arranged by the Council will be advertised on
the Council’s website, via Social Media and
by informing members of the Powys Byways
User Group. Conditions will apply to use by
motorcycles on these dates, details of which
are set out in the Order and can be provided on
request.

thrwydded sy’n cael eu trefnu a’u goruchwylio gan
y Cyngor Sir; a thrwy gytundeb o flaen llaw gyda’r
Cyngor, ar gyfer digwyddiadau a drefnir dan Reol
5(c) Rheoliadau Cerbydau Modur (Cystadlaethau
a Threialon) 1969 (sydd hefyd yn cael ei alw’n
Rali Diogelwch ar y Ffyrdd’). Bydd y diwrnodau
dan drwydded a drefnir gan y Cyngor yn cael
eu hysbysebu ar wefan y Cyngor, ar gyfryngau
cymdeithasol a thrwy roi gwybod i aelodau Grwˆp
Defnyddwyr Cilffyrdd Powys. Bydd amodau’n
berthnasol i’r rhai sy’n defnyddio beiciau modur
ar y dyddiadau hyn, a bydd y manylion yn y
Gorchymyn, neu gallwch wneud cais i’w gweld.
