PART REVOCATION, REVOCATION,

40MPH AND 50MPH SPEED LIMITS

ORDER 2025

NOTICE is hereby given that Somerset Council proposes to make the above Order in pursuance of the provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which is to introduce 40mph and 50mph speed limits on the lengths of roads as specified in Schedules 1 and 2 to this Notice. Somerset County Council (Various Roads, Bridgwater) (Revocation, 40mph Speed Limit and 50mph Speed Limit) Order 2019 is hereby part revoked as per Schedule 3 to this Order. Somerset County Council (A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater) (Parishes of Pawlett and Puriton) (50mph Speed Limit) Order 2021 is hereby revoked as specified in Schedule 4 to this Order. A copy of the draft Order, the maps showing the lengths of road affected and the Statement of Reasons for proposing to make the Order may be inspected online at www.somerset.gov.uk/TRO. Any person wishing to make representations or to object to the proposed Order should send a statement in writing of their representations or objection and state the grounds on which it is made to Somerset Council, via email to TROinbox@somerset.gov.uk quoting Reference No. ET22082024 and received no later than 21 days from the publication of this notice. The names and addresses of anyone writing in may be made available for public inspection and will be included in a report that may be published on the Somerset Council website, unless the individuals concerned state, in writing, their objection to their names and addresses being made so available or being included in the publication.

Schedule 1 – 40mph Speed Limit

A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater (Southbound Carriageway) – from the A38 Dunball Roundabout in a southeasterly direction for a distance of 410 metres.

A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater (Northbound Carriageway) – from the A38 Dunball Roundabout in a southeasterly direction for a distance of 170 metres.

A38 Dunball Roundabout, Bridgwater – for its entire length.

A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater (Both sides of Carriageway) – from the A38 Dunball Roundabout in a northwesterly direction for a distance of 830 metres.

A39 Road from Interchange to Roundabout, Bridgwater (Westbound Carriageway) – from the junction with the Dunball Industrial Estate Road in a southwesterly direction to the A38 Dunball Roundabout.

A39 Road from Roundabout to Interchange, Bridgwater (Eastbound Carriageway) – from the A38 Dunball Roundabout in an easterly direction for a distance of 36 metres

Walpole Lane, Bridgwater – for its entire length

Schedule 2 – 50mph Speed Limit

A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater (Both sides of Carriageway) – from a point 42 metres south from the junction with Puriton Road in a southerly direction for a distance of 600 metres

A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater (Southbound Carriageway) – from a point 410 metres south from the junction with Dunball Roundabout in a southerly direction for a distance of 920 metres

A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater (Northbound Carriageway) – from a point 77 metres north from the junction with Bristol Road Roundabout by Ascot Drive in a northerly direction for a distance of 1420 metres

SCHEDULE 3 – Part Revocation

Somerset County Council (Various Roads, Bridgwater) (Revocation, 40mph Speed Limit and 50mph Speed Limit) Order 2019 will be part revoked as follows: –

(50mph Speed Limit)

A38 Dunball Roundabout – for its entire length

A39 Road from Interchange to Roundabout, Bridgwater – from Dunball Roundabout in an easterly direction for a distance of 36 metres

A39 Road from Interchange to Roundabout, Bridgwater – from a point 31 metres east of the junction with Dunball Industrial Estate Road for a distance of 250 metres approaching Dunball Roundabout in a westerly direction

A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater – from the Dunball Roundabout in a northwesterly direction for a distance of 31 metres

A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater (Southbound Carriageway) – from the junction with the Dunball Roundabout in a southerly direction for a distance of 1342 metres

A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater (Northbound Carriageway) – from the junction with Dunball Roundabout in a southerly direction for a distance of 1593 metres

SCHEDULE 4 – Revocation

Somerset County Council (A38 Bristol Road, Bridgwater) (Parishes of Pawlett and Puriton) (50mph Speed Limit) Order 2021 will be revoked.

STATEMENT OF REASONS FOR PROPOSING TO MAKE THE ORDER

For avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising. To maintain a safe environment throughout the road, particularly at junctions and facilitate pedestrian and cyclist movements across and beside the road.
