Southend-on-Sea, Temporary Road Closures Due To Carriageway Resurfacing Works

What is happening?

SOUTHEND-ON-SEA CITY COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14(1)

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2025

LONDON ROAD (A13) WOODCOTE ROAD, ROCKLEIGH AVENUE & NELSON ROAD LEIGH-ON-SEA

Notice is hereby given that Southend-on-Sea City Council intends, no less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The effect of the order will be to prohibit any vehicle from;

  1. Proceeding on London Road (A13) from its junction with Lindisfarne Avenue & Sandleigh Road to Leigh Road.

  2. Entering & exiting Woodcote Road at its junction with London Road A13

  3. Entering & exiting Rockleigh Avenue at its junction with London Road A13

  4. Entering & exiting Nelson Road at its junction with London Road A13

The closure is scheduled to commence from 19:30 on the 2nd September 2025 until 05:00 on 3rd September 2025 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting.

The alternative route will be via (Westbound diversion)

Southbourne Grove, Kenilworth Gardens, Blenheim Chase & (Eastbound diversion) Eastwood Road or Eastwood Road, Blenheim Chase, Kenilworth Gardens & Westbourne Grove.

The alternative routes for local traffic will be displayed on site.

The Order will come into effect on 2nd September 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce whilst Carriageway Resurfacing works takes place.

Access for emergency vehicles, residents and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.

The prohibitions or restrictions will apply only during such time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction/prohibition imposed by this Notice may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice and removed under the provisions of the Traffic Management Act 2004.
