Norfolk, 20mph & 30mph Speed Limit Consolidation & Variation Order
What is happening?
THE NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL (LITTLE MELTON, VARIOUS ROADS) (20MPH SPEED ZONE AND 30MPH SPEED LIMIT) CONSOLIDATION ORDER 2025
The Norfolk County Council has made the following speed limit order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, on 12th August 2025, which comes into effect on 18th August 2025. The effect of this Order is to:
Consolidate and vary the orders being revoked below, ensuring the 20mph speed limit on the existing lengths of road U78410 Gibbs Close, U71840 All Saints Close, U71839 Homecroft, U71784 Limes Close, U78008 Mill Road, and U78362 Ringwood Close, remain unchanged, but will be enforced by a 20mph speed zone instead of the current 20mph speed limits.
Consolidate the 1998 Order ensuring the 30mph speed limit on the existing lengths of road U71835 Braymeadow Lane, 79098 Braymeadow Lane, and the C772 Green Lane remain unchanged.
Consolidate and vary the 1998 Order by reducing the current 30mph speed limit to 20mph and implementing a speed zone along the following roads:
a. U78047 Burnthouse Lane from its junction with the C169 Great Melton Road southwards for a distance of 144 metres.
The U78047 Burnthouse Lane 20mph speed limit has been implemented by reducing the 30mph speed limit from its junction with the C169 Great Melton Road southwards for a distance of 95 metres, and by reducing the National speed limit from a point 95 metres south of its junction the C169 Great Melton Road southwards for a distance of 49 metres.
b. C169 Great Melton Road from the centreline of its junction with the C169 School Lane for 14 metres westwards.
c. C169 School Lane (previously known as 'C169 The Street') from the centreline of its junction with U78008 Mill Road eastwards to a point 21 metres west of the centreline of its junction with U71835 Braymeadow Lane.
The remaining lengths of road referred to in the 1998 Order will remain subject to a 30mph speed limit as detailed in Schedule 2 of the proposed Order.
The purpose of this consolidation and variation is to clarify the implementation of 20mph and 30mph speed limits.
The Norfolk County Council (Little Melton) (30mph speed limit) Order 1998 (the “1998 Order”); The Norfolk County Council (Little Melton, Mill Road and Ringwood Close) (20mph speed limits) Order 2015 (the “2015 Order”); The Norfolk County Council (Little Melton, Mill Road and Ringwood Close) (20mph speed limit) Amendment Order 2016 (the “2016 Order”); The Norfolk County Council (Little Melton, Limes Close) 20mph speed limit Order 2019 (the “2019 Order”); The Norfolk County Council (Little Melton, Homecroft, All Saints Close and Gibb Close) (20mph speed limit) Order 2023 (the “First 2023 Order”); The Norfolk County Council (Little Melton, Ringwood Close) (20mph speed limit) Order 2023 (the “Second 2023 Order”); are hereby revoked in their entirety on the date of commencement of this Order.
