Essex - Speed Limit Changes and Temporary Road Closures
What is happening?
Essex County Council
(Various Roads, Halstead)
(Restricted Road and 40mph Speed Limit) Order 202*
(Edwards Avenue, Halstead) (20mph Zone) Order 202*
Notice is hereby given that Essex County Council proposes to make the above Order under Sections 81, 82(2), 83(2), 84(1) (a) and (2) and Parts III and IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).
The Effect of the Order:
1. To Implement – a ‘40mph Speed Limit’ Restriction on the following length of road – currently a derestricted road (TRAF/8087)

From a point approximately 13 metres southwest of its junction with Grange Close (where the existing 30mph speed limit ends) south west for approximately 146 metres. |
Edwards Avenue |
From its junction with Tidings Hill north west for approximately 7 metres. |
‘The Essex County Council (A131 Mount Hill and Oak Road, Halstead) (Restricted Road and 40MPH Speed Limit) Order 2022’ is hereby revoked in its entirety hereby, any roads not mentioned above shall continue in force by virtue of this new Order.
2.To Implement – a ‘20mph Zone’ Restriction on the following length of roads: (TRAF/8473)

From a point approximately 7 metres northwest of its junction with Tidings Hill, for its entire length, including any private drives and turning heads. |
Fairman Way |
From its junction with Edwards Avenue for its entire length including any private drives and turning heads for approximately 72.5 metres. |
Jubilee Rise |
From its junction with Edwards Avenue for its entire length including any private drives and turning heads for approximately 180 metres. |

(Nunnery Street/Pye Corner, Castle Hedingham)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Nunnery Street/Pye Corner, Castle Hedingham in the District of Braintree, from the junction with Yeldham Road to the junction with Crown Street a distance of approximately 915m. The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th September 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2326204A – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway patching works are undertaken by Essex County Council.
An alternative route is available via Pye Corner, Bayley Street, St James Street, Church Street, Station Road, Yeldham Road and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is earlier.
(Dyers End, Stambourne)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Dyers End, Stambourne in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 215m south west of its junction with Church Road for a distance of approximately 45m in a south westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 27th August 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30060308717 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled end dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.
An alternative route is available via Church Road, Mill Road, Chapel End Way, Cornish Hall End Road, Stambourne Road, Cornish Hall End, Little London Hill and vice versa (with access only into Howe Street, Upper Howe Street, Finchingfield Road – Howe Street to Dyer’s End – Zc161, Robinhood End, Finchingfield Road and Dyers End).
The Order came into effect on 7th August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Sudbury Road, Gestingthorpe)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Sudbury Road, Gestingthorpe in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Potkiln Chase for a distance of approximately 350m in a north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 26th August 2025 for 2 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2384828 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway patching works are undertaken by Essex County Council.
An alternative route is available via Sudbury Road, Church Street, Audley End, Moat Street, Hedingham Road, Church Road, Broad Road, Hedingham Road, Bulmer Tye, Church Road, Bulmer Street, Lower Houses, Sudbury Road and vice versa.
The Order came into effect on 7th August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
