Hertfordshire, Multiple Roads, Temporary Closure Due To Various Works
What is happening?
HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:
(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF PORTLAND STREET, ST ALBANS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Portland Street, St Albans from a point in line with the northern boundary of No. 2 Portland Street south westwards for a distance of approximately 23m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via Portland Street, A5183 Verulam Road, Hill Street, Upper Dagnall Street and Beaconsfield Road.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 2 September 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF PROSPECT ROAD, ST ALBANS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Prospect Road, St Albans from its junction with A5183 Holywell Hill south westwards for a distance of approximately 40m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via A5183 Holywell Hill, A1081 London Road, Watson’s Walk, Cottonmill Lane and Prospect Road.
The Order is needed because utility works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 1 September 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF B651 STONECROSS AND AVENUE ROAD, ST ALBANS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”), except for access:-
that length of B651 Stonecross, St Albans from its junction with B651 Peters Street/Harpenden Road, eastwards for a distance of approximately 80m.
that length of Avenue Road, St Albans from its junction with B651 Stonecross eastwards for a distance of approximately 100m.
An alternative route will be via B651 Stonecross, Sandpit Lane, Lemsford Road and Avenue Road.
The Order is needed because the replacement of existing gas mains is proposed to be carried out on or near the Roads.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 1 September 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

(TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF THE PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER IN PIGGOTTSHILL LANE, HARPENDEN) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to temporarily suspend the provisions of the “Hertfordshire (Harpenden) (Prohibition and Restriction of Waiting) (Traffic Order) 1971” in that length of Piggotts Hill Lane, Harpenden from its junction with Station Road north eastwards for a distance of approximately 20m (“the Road”).
The Order is needed because the replacement of existing gas bollards is proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 1 September 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND TEMPORARY WAITING RESTRICTIONS IN VARIOUS ROADS IN ST ALBANS, WHEATHAMPSTEAD, SANDRIDGE AND RADLETT) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”), except for access and to prohibit all vehicles from waiting at any time on both sides of these lengths of Roads when works are in progress:-
that length of A5183 Redbourn Road, St Albans from its junction with Redbournbury Lane south eastwards to its junction with Hogg End Lane, a distance of approximately 1540m.
An alternative route will be via A5183 St Albans Road, B487 (Redbourn Bypass/ Hemel Hempstead Road), Redbourn Road, A4147 (Redbourn Road/Swallowdale Lane/Leverstock Green Way/Leverstock Green Road/Hemel Hempstead Road/Bluehouse Hill) and A5183 Redbourn Road.
that length of B653 Marford Road, Wheathampstead from its junction with the B651 Cory-Wright Way/Marford Road eastwards to its junction with Waterton Lane, a distance of approximately 1032m.
An alternative route will be via B653 Cory-Wright Way/Codicote Road, B651 (Station Road/The Hill/High Street/Sandridge Road/Northgate Street) and A1081 St Albans Road/Sandridge Road/A1057 (Hatfield Road/St Albans Road West), A1057 Hatfield Road and B653 Marford Road.
that length of B651 Wheathampstead Road, Sandridge from its junction with B651 The Hill south eastwards to its junction with B651 High Street, a distance of approximately 2327.7m.
An alternative route will be via B651 (The Hill/High Street/Station Road), B653 (Cory-Wright Way/Marford Road/Brocket Road), Coopers Green Lane, Oaklands Lane, Sandpit Lane, Hose Lane and B651 High Street.
that length of Colney Heath Lane, St Albans from its junction with A1057 Hatfield Road south westwards to its junction with Ashley Road, a distance of approximately 2071m.
An alternative route will be via A1057 Hatfield Road, Station Road, Smallford Lane and A414 London Colney roundabout.
that length of Shenley Lane, Radlett from its junction with Williams Way north eastwards for a distance of approximately 391m.
An alternative route will be via Shenley Hill, A5183 Watling Street, B556 Harper Lane, B5378 Shenleybury/Black Lion Hill/London Road) and Radlett Lane.
that length of Lower Luton Lane, Wheathampstead from its junction with Marford Road south westwards to its junction with Kimpton Road, B651 (Ballysmith Hill/High Street), B652 (Bridge Street/Upper Luton/Power Heath Lane), A1081 Lower Luton Road and B653 Lower Luton Road.
The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 1 September 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF ARDEN GROVE, HARPENDEN AND HIGHFIELD LANE, ST ALBANS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”), except for access and to prohibit all vehicles from waiting at any time on both sides of these lengths of Roads whilst works are in progress:-
that length of Arden Grove, Harpenden from its junction with B652 Station Road south eastwards for a distance of approximately 78m.
An alternative route will be via B652 Station Road, A1081 St Albans Road, Bull Road, Southdown Road and Arden Grove.
that length of Highfield Lane, St Albans from its junction with Highfield Park Drive south eastwards, south westwards and south westwards to its junction with A414 North Orbital Road, a distance of approximately 1339m.
An alternative route will be via Highfield Park Drive, A1081 London Road and A414 North Orbital Road.
The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 4 September 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF A4147 CATHERINE STREET AND ETNA ROAD, ST ALBANS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”), except for access:-
that length of A4147 Catherine Street, St Albans from its junction with Bernard Street south eastwards for a distance of approximately 52m.
An alternative route will be via A4147 Catherine Street, B651 Lemsford Road/Verulam Road, A1081 (St Peters Street and A4147 Catherine Street).
that length of Etna Road, St Albans from its junction with A4147 Catherine Street north eastwards for a distance of approximately 20m.
There is no alternative route available for vehicles when the works are being carried out. Access to properties will be maintained whenever possible during the works.
The Order is needed because water connection works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 19 August 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND TEMPORARY WAITING RESTRICTIONS IN WILKINS GREEN LANE, SMALLFORD) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Wilkins Green Lane, Smallford from its junction with Station Road north eastwards to its junction with Springfield Road, a distance of approximately 183m (“the Road”), except for access.
The Order also prohibits the use of the Road by vehicles when the works are being carried out. However vehicular access to properties in this road will be maintained whenever possible throughout the duration of the works.
The Order also prohibits all vehicles from waiting at any time on both sides of this length of the Road whilst works are in progress.
The Order has been made and shall come into force on 19 August 2025 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.
