Essex -Multiple Temporary Road Closures due to Maintenance and Public Events
What is happening?

(Various Roads, Colchester) (Castle Park Special Event)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Suspension of One Way) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
1. To temporarily close the following lengths of roads in the City of Colchester:
Road | Description |
Maidenburgh Street, Colchester | From its junctions with St Peters Street to its junction with St Helens Lane. |
Middle Mill, Colchester | For its entire length. |
Northgate Street, Colchester | From its junction with West Stockwell Street to its junctions with Maidenburgh Street. |
St Helens Lane, Colchester | From its junction with Taylor Court to its junction with Maidenburgh Street. |
St Peters Street, Colchester | From its junction with Short Cut Road to its junctions with Middle Mill. |
2. To temporarily suspend the existing one-way restriction on Northgate Street, Colchester between its junction with West Stockwell Street and St Peters Street.
‘The Colchester Borough (East and West Stockwell Streets, Maidenburgh Street and Northgate Street) (One Way, etc) Order 1978 is hereby temporarily suspended insofar as it relates to the one-way restriction on Northgate Street only. All other restrictions will remain in place.
The restrictions are scheduled to commence between 14 August 2025 and 23 August 2025 between the hours of 12pm midday to 12 am or where appropriate as signed on site, weather permitting and are required for the safety of the public while special events take place at Castle Park.
Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during closure.
The Order will come into operation on the 14 August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the events have taken place, whichever is the earlier.
(Back Road, Ardleigh) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Back Road, Ardleigh in the District of Tendring, from its junction with Waterhouse Lane to its junction with Mill Lane a distance of approximately 350m. The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th September 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2386787 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while drainage works are undertaken by Essex County Council.
An alternative route is available via Mill Lane, Frating Road, Old Shield Farm Road and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Bakers Lane, Colchester)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Bakers Lane, Colchester in the City of Colchester, from a point approximately 395m north east then north west of its junction with Spring Lane North for a distance of approximately 20m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 11th September 2025 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03164195743 – Anglian Water).
The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while burst main works are undertaken by Anglian Water.
An alternative route is available via Bakers Lane, B1508, Chapel Road, Newbridge Hill, Chitts Hill, A1124, Halstead Road, A1124, A133 Spring Lane North and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the above mentioned works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Butt Road, Colchester) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Suspension of One Way) & (Wellington Street, Colchester) (Temporary Suspension of One Way) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
1. To temporarily close that length Butt Road, Colchester in the City of Colchester, from its junction with Alexandra Road to its junction with the A134 a distance of approximately 175m.
2. To temporarily suspend the one-way restriction in that length of Butt Road, Colchester, from its junction with Beaconsfield Avenue to its junction with the A134 a distance of approximately 295m as detailed in “The Borough of Colchester (Butt Road (One Way) Order 1973” for the duration of the above closure.
3. To temporarily suspend the one-way restriction in that length of Wellington Street, Colchester, from its junction with Butt Road to its junction with West Street a distance of approximately 45m as detailed in “The Borough of Colchester (Wellington Street and Chapel Street) (One-Way) Order, 1972” for the duration of the above closure only.
The closure/suspensions are scheduled to commence on 14th September 2025 for 2 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AZ7011001436262 – Cadent).
The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure/suspensions are required for the safety of the public and workforce while new gas connection works are undertaken by Cadent.
Alternative routes available via:
1. A134, B1025, Berechurch Road, Berechurch Hall Road, B1026 and vice versa.
2. Wellington Street, West Street, South Street, Chapel Street South, A134 and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Chapel Street, Rowhedge)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Chapel Street, Rowhedge in the City of Colchester, from its junction with Head Street for a distance of approximately 20m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 12th September 2025 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (BC008OGEAA0938087 – Openreach).
The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while overhead structure works are undertaken by Openreach.
An alternative route is available via Head Street, Chapel Street and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Coles Oak Lane, Dedham)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Coles Oak Lane, Dedham in the City of Colchester, from a point approximately 355m north west of the junction with Colchester Road for a distance of approximately 55m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th September 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (MT00110276921 – Affinity Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while boundary box replacement works are undertaken by Affinity Water.
An alternative route is available via Coles Oak Lane, Ipswich Road, Stratford Road, Colchester Road, Coles Oak Lane and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Fishponds Hill, Great Horkesley/Little Horkesley)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Fishponds Hill, Great Horkesley/Little Horkesley in the City of Colchester, from its junction with London Road to its junction with Mayland Road a distance of approximately 790m. The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th September 2025 for 9 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2385305 & EP201EH2385306 & EP201EH2385264 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while drainage works are undertaken by Essex County Council.
An alternative route is available via London Road, Horkesley Hill, Water Lane, Mayland Road and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Gosbecks View, Colchester)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Gosbecks View, Colchester in the City of Colchester, from a point approximately 60m south west of its junction with Gosbecks Road for a distance of approximately 20m in a south westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 9th September 2025 for 7 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30022751431 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.
No alternative route is available.
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Heath Road, Fordham Heath)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Heath Road, Fordham Heath in the City of Colchester, from its junction with Wood Lane for a distance of approximately 30m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 9th September 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03166232493/1 – Anglian Water).
The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while frame and chamber replacement works are undertaken by Anglian Water.
An alternative route is available via Wood Lane, Kings Lane and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(St Andrews Avenue, Colchester)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of St Andrews Avenue, Colchester in the City of Colchester, from a point approximately 120m north west of its junction with The Chase for a distance of approximately 35m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 8th September 2025 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03166304207 – Anglian Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pipe repair works are undertaken by Anglian Water.
No diversion route is available. (With access only to St Andrews Avenue.)
The Order will come into effect on 21st August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Blackberry Road, Stanway)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Blackberry Road, Stanway in the City of Colchester, from its junction with Heath Road to its junction with Dyers Road a distance of approximately 40m. The closure is scheduled to commence on 18th August 2025 for 15 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC411002FRB39478 – Openreach).
The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while duct installation and carriageway works are undertaken by Openreach.
An alternative route is available via Blackberry Road, Warren Lane, Church Lane, Tollgate Road, Tollgate East, Tollgate Roundabout, London Road, Villa Road, Chapel Road, Winstree Road and vice versa.
The Order came into effect on 7th August 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Colchester Road, West Bergholt)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Colchester Road, West Bergholt in the City of Colchester, from a point approximately 80m south east of its junction with Manor Road for a distance of approximately 20m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 26th August 2025 for 4 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD02310775831/1 – Anglian Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by Anglian Water.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Mile End Road, Colchester in the City of Colchester, from a point approximately 60m north west of the junction with Wedgewood Drive for a distance of approximately 30m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 25th August 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03166186852 – Anglian Water).
The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pipe repair works are undertaken by Anglian Water.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of New Farm Road, Stanway in the City of Colchester, from its junction with London Road to its junction with Chappel Road a distance of approximately 710m.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Oxford Road, Colchester in the City of Colchester, from its junction with Lexden Road for a distance of approximately 55m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 26th August 2025 for 4 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD02310780939 – Anglian Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by Anglian Water.
An alternative route is available via Creffield Road, Beverley Road, Lexden Road and vice versa (with access only into Oxford Road).
