Great Portwood Street - Temporary One Way Traffic For Works

What is happening?

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF STOCKPORT
(GREAT PORTWOOD STREET, PORTWOOD) (TEMPORARY ONE WAY TRAFFIC) NOTICE 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport proposes to make an Order not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which will be to introduce Temporary One Way Traffic at Great Portwood Street, Portwood from the entrance of Peel Centre to the junction of Corporation Street (Westbound Closure), and Great Portwood Street, Portwood from the junction of Knightsbridge to the entrance of Peel Centre (Eastbound Closure), whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the said road. This Order is necessary to allow for works to investigate bridge waterproofing and all other associated works. It is estimated these works will last 2 weeks. The following diversions will be provided: Eastbound diversion: Knightsbridge, Lancashire Hill, Tiviot Way, Portwood Roundabout, and Great Portwood Street. Westbound diversion: Great Portwood Street, Portwood Roundabout, Tiviot Way, Lancashire Hill, Knightsbridge. This Notice does not apply to pedestrians. One footway over the bridge will remain open at all times. 

This Order is to come into operation on 1 September 2025 and will have effect for eighteen months, provided that if all necessary works are completed within a shorter period this Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period. Ref: JO/10674626 Dated: 20 August 2025.
