What is happening?

SOUTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL
MILL LANE, WHITBURN - phase 1
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF DRIVING
ORDER 2025
Notice is hereby given that on 14/8/25 South
Tyneside Council made an Order under S.14(1)
of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the
Act”) the effect of which will be to temporarily
prohibit driving on the following sections of road:-
Mill Ln, Whitburn, from its junction with Kitchener
Ter, in a northerly direction, for a distance of
325m. The Order is required because works are
being or are proposed to be executed on or
near the road, and in particular to enable South
Tyneside Council to resurface the highway. The
Order will come into force on the 14/8/25. The
maximum duration of the prohibition under this
Order will be 18 mths however it is anticipated
that the prohibition will only be needed from
19/8/25 for 8 days. All vehicles except those
engaged in the works, will be prohibited on the
road described above for the duration of the
works. The prohibition shall only apply at such
times and to such extent as may from time to
time be indicated by the display of traffic signs.
During the prohibition, the alternative route will be
via Mill Ln, Augusta Ter, North Guards, Lizard Ln,
Kitchener Rd & vice versa.
