West Oxfordshire, Speed Limit Reductions & Temporary Bridleway Closure

What is happening?

OXFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

1. (CARTERTON) (SPEED LIMITS) ORDER 20

2. (BRIZE NORTON PARISH) (SPEED LIMITS) ORDER 20

NOTICE is given that Oxfordshire County Council proposes to make the above orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers. The effect of the order – in order to help improve road safety on local roads – is to introduce a 20mph speed limit within Carterton, replacing the majority of the 30mph speed limit in the town in the process, leading to the following roads:

  1. B4020 Shilton Road – its junction with Brizewood,

  2. B4477 Upavon Way:

    a. Western end – a point 20 metres west of its junction with Lord Close,

    b. Eastern end – a point 20 metres east of its junction with Northwood Crescent,

  3. B4477 Alvescot Road – a point 65 metres southwest of its junction with the B4020 Upavon Way,

  4. Bovingdon Road – its junction with the B4477 Upavon Way,

  5. Brize Norton Road – a point 25 metres northeast of its junction with Wycombe Way,

  6. Brizewood – its junction with the B4020 Shilton Road,

  7. Carr Avenue – its junction with the B4477 Upavon Way,

  8. Colerne Road – its junction with the B4477 Upavon Way,

  9. Edgeworth Drive – its junction with the B4477 Upavon Way,

  10. Faulder Avenue – its junction with the B4477 Upavon Way,

  11. Minty Close – its junction with the B4477 Upavon Way,

  12. Richens Drive – its junction with the B4477 Upavon Way,

  13. Shillbrook Avenue – its junction with the B4020 Shilton Road,

  14. Stanmore Crescent – a point 10 metres north of its junction with Ely Close.

Sections of 30mph speed limit will remain on the B4020 Shilton Road, B4477 Upavon Way, B4477 Monahan Way, Brize Norton Road, Broadshires Way, Carterton Road, Duxford Close, Shilton Road, and Stanmore Crescent, with Officers having taken the current road environment into account.

Additionally, in Brize Norton – new 30mph speed limits will replace the existing 40mph on Carterton Road & the B4477 Norton Way in their entirety, and on the B4477 Monahan Way to a point 50 metres north of its junction with Teasel Way and Bellenger Way (the end remaining 40mph north of this junction to stay in place).

The Oxfordshire County Council (Carterton) (Speed Limits) Order 2022, and the Oxfordshire County Council (Brize Norton Parish) (Speed Limits) Order 2023 will be revoked/ replaced as necessary.

Objections to the proposals and other representations specifying the grounds on which they are made may be sent in writing to the address below by the end of 12 September 2025. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response to this Notice. They may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public. SECTION 14(1) & (2)

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Minster Lovell, Bridleway No.302/8/10 partial Closure

Date of Order: 11 August 2025

Coming into force: 14 August 2025

This Order follows on from an emergency closure on 24 July 2025 and is introduced because of repairs required to the bridleway surface which are anticipated to be completed February 2026 subject to funding approval and consent from Natural England to undertake repairs.

The effect of the Order is to close temporarily Bridleway 8 to horse riders and cyclists only. The route runs from the village scout hut towards Worsham. Pedestrian access will remain. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force.

This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 6 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T16371/RAG)
