Order 2025
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road. Phase 1: A 960 metre length of A1086 south eastbound carriageway from its junction with A19; a 230 metre length of A1086 Little Thorpe Roundabout between the A1086 north westbound dual carriageway and the splitter island south of the roundabout and a 260 metre length of B1432 Thorpe Road between Little Thorpe Roundabout and the junction to Stonelea Court. Phase 2: A 1750 metre length of A1086 in a northerly and north westerly direction, from the junction with Essington Way to A19 northbound and incorporating Thorpe Road Roundabout south west section, between the eastern side of the southern splitter island and the northern side of the A1086 western splitter island. It will also be necessary to suspend the environmental weight restriction on B1432 Thorpe Road and B1285 Seaside Lane, as detailed in the County of Durham (seaside Lane etc Easington Colliery) (Prohibition of Commercial Vehicles over 3 Tons Unladen Weight) Order 1978 to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from: Phase 1 A19 southbound to B1320 Burnhope Way, and back north onto A19 and exiting onto A182 toward Easington onto B1283 Hall Walks / Seaside Lane, and from north of the 1432 Thorpe Road closure, from B1283 Seaside Lane easterly and continuing south onto Station Road to A1086, leading generally westerly toward A19 to the southern side of the closure and vice versa. Phase 2 The southern side of the closure from Essington Way, generally easterly on A1086 Thorpe Road, then north and west on B1283 to Easington and north onto A19 southbound onto A1086. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on Monday 1/9/2025 and are anticipated to be completed in 9 nights, between 8pm-6am (no works Saturday or Sunday night). On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
