What is happening?

KIRKLEES COUNCIL (TRAFFIC REGULATION)
(CONSOLIDATION ORDER PROVIDING ON-STREET PARKING PLACES, WAITING, LOADING AND STOPPING RESTRICTIONS AND MIGRATION TO A ‘MAP-BASED’ FORMAT) ORDER 2024 (AMENDMENT NO. 18) ORDER 2025 HALIFAX ROAD, DEWSBURY, HIGH STREET, CAWLEY LANE, COMMERCIAL STREET HECKMONDWIKE AND UPPER BLAKERIDGE LANE, BATLEY
The Council of the Borough of Kirklees propose to make the above Order under their powers in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which, as it affects a lengths of road in the Heckmondwike, Dewsbury and Batley areas of the Kirklees district, will be to amend the Kirklees Council (Traffic Regulation) (Consolidation Order Providing On-Street Parking Places, Waiting,
Loading And Stopping Restrictions and Migration to a ‘Map-Based’ Format) Order 2024 so as to:
1. Prohibit the waiting of vehicles at any time on lengths of the following roads:
i. Upper Blakeridge Lane, Batley
ii. Cawley Lane, Heckmondwike
iii. High Street, Heckmondwike
iv. Commercial Street, Heckmondwike
2. To create free parking places for a maximum stay of 1 hour with no return within 1 hour on a length of Halifax Road, Dewsbury (The restriction will apply
from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday)
3. To create a disabled parking bay, which will operate at all times on a length of Halifax Road, Dewsbury (with a maximum stay of 3 hours and no return
within 1 hour)
4. To revoke an item relating to the existing free parking place on Halifax Road, Dewsbury in the Kirklees Council (Traffic Regulation) (Consolidation Order Providing On-Street Parking Places, Waiting, Loading and Stopping Restrictions and Migration to a ‘Map-Based’ Format) Order 2024 which will be redundant when certain parts of the restrictions referred to above are introduced REASON: The purpose of this proposed order is to introduce parking and waiting restrictions on various roads within Kirklees to improve safety, accessibility, and maintain traffic flows.
Specifically, the order seeks to:
• Reduce the length of the existing limited waiting bay on Halifax Road, Dewsbury, to facilitate the introduction of a formal disabled parking bay.
• Introduce “No Waiting at Any Time” restrictions on:
• High Street, Cawley Lane, and Commercial Street, Heckmondwike – to maintain access and improve visibility at these locations.
• Upper Blakeridge Lane, Batley – to ensure safe and unobstructed access for pedestrians and heavy goods vehicles.
These measures are intended to enhance road safety and accessibility for all road users.
