What is happening?

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF STOCKPORT (STOCKPORT CAR PARK SCHEME) (FREE TO CHARGED OFF STREET PARKING PLACES) AND (REVOCATION) NOTICE 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Road Traffic Act 1991 and the Traffic Management Act 2004 the effect of which will be to introduce free to charged Off Street Parking Places Orders at the following Car Parks: Arnold Street (Edgeley) Arnold/Hardcastle Street (Edgeley) Bramley Close (Bramhall South & Woodford) Guywood Lane (Romiley Railway Station) (Bredbury Green & Romiley) Redhouse Lane (Bredbury Green & Romiley) Hibbert/Church Lane (Marple North) Brabyns Brow (Lower) (Marple North) Brabyns Park (main public car park) (Marple North) Middlers (Brabyns Brow Upper) (Marple North) Brookside Lane (Marple South & High Lane) Buxton Road (Library) ( Marple South & High Lane) Buxton Road (Medical Centre) (Marple South & High Lane) Windlehurst Road (Marple South & High Lane) Torkington Park (Hazel Grove) Church Road (Cheadle West & Gatley) Finney Lane (Heald Green) Church Road/Woods Lane (Cheadle Hulme South) Andrew Street (Marple North) Hallam Street (Davenport & Cale Green) Green Street (Davenport & Cale Green) Ashbrook Lane (Reddish North) Derby Range (Heatons North), Didsbury Road (Heatons South) Rupert Street (Reddish North) Margaret Street (Reddish North).

Contract Permits:
Contract permits will be made available where operation demands. Contract Permit holders’ vehicles must fit wholly within a marked bay (where applicable) and be less than 1.98m in height (this excludes the majority of motorhomes). A permit will not be issued for use for vehicles which are known to exceed these dimensions.

Resident Permits: A resident parking permit will be offered to those residing in properties within a 100m radius of the car park. It is proposed that one discounted resident permit will be provided per residential property (not per resident) (businesses excluded). The residence in question should have no private curtilage or driveway on which a vehicle can be parked, nor any other alternative parking within 100m of the property. If alternative parking is available, a discounted resident permit will not be offered. The permit will be limited to use on vehicles which fit wholly within a standard marked parking bay (2.4m by 4.8m) (where applicable) and be less than 1.98m in height. The permit will be issued for use by one specific vehicle which must be registered at the residential address in question; evidence of which will be required at the application stage and also may be requested at any time. 

A permit may be withdrawn if the required terms are not met. No guarantee of a space is provided, and vehicles must be parked elsewhere if there is no available capacity.

Resident Permit Charges : £47.50 per annum or £23.75 per annum for Leisure Key Band A holders. 

The proposed Off-Street parking places Orders will, along with all the standard Stockport Council car park terms and conditions, include the requirement to: Pay the parking fee from a mobile phone or by a ticket machine or, have a valid permit. 3 hours free parking in any bay with a blue-badge and clock clearly displayed. Display a blue-badge whilst parked in a disabled person’s parking bay and park wholly within a marked bay. No parking in a bay designated for another class of vehicle. No parking an electric vehicle in an electric vehicle charging bay when not actively charging an electric vehicle. No waiting in a loading bay without actively loading. No waiting in a bay for longer than the maximum period of time specified by signage and no return to a bay within a period of time specified by signage.

Charges: Monday to Saturday 8am - 6pm: 1hr - £0.50, 2hrs - £0.70, 3hrs - £0.90, 4hrs - £1.00, 5hrs - £1.20, 6hrs - £1.40, 7hrs - £1.80, 8hrs - £2.00, 9hrs - £2.20, 10hrs - £2.40. Sunday: £0.00 for any number of hours. The following Orders are proposed to be revoked:- The Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport (Church Road and Woods Lane Car Park Smithy Green) (Off Street Parking Places) Order 2015; The Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport (Marple Bridge) (Off Street Parking Places) Order 2005; The Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport (Marple Bridge) (Off Street Parking Places) (Amendment No1) Order 2015; and Guywood Lane Car Park, Romiley revoked from The Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport (Off Street Parking Places) Consolidation Order 2005.
