M60 Motorway - Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic For Maintenance Works

THE M60 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 20-19
CARRIAGEWAY AND SLIP ROADS)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M60 Motorway, in the City of Manchester, in the County of Greater Manchester, to enable waterproofing of the River Irk Bridge deck and other general maintenance works to be carried out in safety.

The Order will impose restrictions and prohibitions on the following sections of the M60 Motorway:

i. a 50 mph speed limit on the anticlockwise carriageway, from a point 425 metres east of the A664 Rochdale Road Bridge, to a point 203 metres east of the Rhodes Interchange (Middleton Road Eastern Overbridge);

ii. ban all traffic from the anticlockwise exit slip road at J19;

iii. ban all traffic from the A576 dedicated entry slip road leading to the anticlockwise carriageway J19;

iv. allow the hard shoulder adjacent to the anticlockwise carriageway to be used as a running lane, from a point 965 metres east of the Rhodes Interchange (Middleton Road Eastern Bridge), to a point 163 metres west of the Rhodes Interchange (Middleton Road Eastern Bridge). A 50 mph speed limit will be in force on the hard shoulder when used as a running lane, as indicated by traffic signs.

Prohibition ii. is expected to be in place during a continuous period, subject to traffic signs, starting at 21:00 on Friday 5 Sept 2025 and ending at 06:00 on Monday 8 September 2025.

Restrictions i. and iv. are expected to be in place during a continuous period, subject to traffic signs, starting at 21:00 on Friday 12 Sept 2025 and ending at 06:00 on Monday 15 September 2025.

Prohibitions ii. and iii. are expected to be in place overnight between 21:00 and 06:00 (07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Tuesday 16 September 2025 and ending on Friday 28 November 2025.

However, works may start and continue during subsequent continuous periods or between the same times on subsequent nights, until completed.

Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M60 Motorway, A576 Trunk Road and local roads will be well signed.

The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services or works vehicles.

The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, be indicated by traffic signs. The Order comes into force on 4 September 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months. For further information, contact sam.smith@nationalhighways.co.uk
