Mallerstang, Bridleway Closure Due To Bridge Collapse

What is happening?

YORKSHIRE DALES NATIONAL PARK AUTHORITY

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC)

BRIDLEWAY NO. 343012 (PART), MALLERSTANG

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 –

SECTION 14(2) (b) (AS AMENDED)

Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority hereby give notice that from 4 August, 2025, until 18 January, 2026 inclusive, no person shall proceed along part of Bridleway No. 343012 in the Parish of Mallerstang between Point A at Grid Reference SD 7819 9972 and Point F at SD 7818 9972 for a distance of approximately 10 metres for reasons of public safety.

The Order follows an Emergency Notice dated 14 July 2025 until 3 August 2025.

For pedestrians an alternative route may be used during the closure period which will be as follows:-

From the point of closure at Grid Reference SD 7819 9972, proceed 73 metres eastwards to the junction with the B6259 road at SD 7826 9971. Follow the B6259 northwards for 813 metres to NY 7830 0051. Join Footpath 343013 westwards for 225 metres to NY 7817 0042. Cross footbridge then proceed southwards along Footpath 343014 for 651 metres to SD 7808 9978. Then join Bridleway 343012 and proceed eastwards for 116 metres to SD 7818 9972.

The alternative route for cyclists and equestrians is to follow the public highway network.

The closure is to safeguard the public owing to the substantial collapse of the bridge abutment creating a serious hazard to users.
