TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 6th August 2025 it made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended), and with the consent of the Secretary of State under 16B of that Act, in order to facilitate the holding of a relevant event, namely the Women’s Rugby World Cup Fanzone Event (‘The Event’) which is to take place on 22nd August 2025 until 23rd August 2025, and to enable the participants to take part in and the public to spectate the Event. The effect of the Order is to prohibit all vehicular traffic along and prohibit all vehicles from waiting and loading or unloading at any time along the lengths of road specified in the Schedule to the Order. The Order comes into force at 00:01am on Thursday 21st August 2025 and cease at 23.59pm on 23rd August 2025, however the Order will only be in operation for 3 days between 10.00 am on Thursday 21st August 2025 and 12.00 noon on Saturday 23rd August 2025.
SCHEDULE: All roads to be closed for their entire length: St Marys Way; Paley Street; Eden Street West; Garrison Field Road and Plater Way.

Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 6th August 2025 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all vehicle traffic from those sections of highway set out in the Schedule below. The order is required to facilitate the holding of a relevant event, namely the Women’s Rugby World Cup (‘The Event’) which is to take place on 22nd August 2025. The order will enable the participants to take part in and the public to spectate the Event in a safe manner. The effect of the Order is to prohibit all vehicular traffic along the lengths of road specified in the Schedule to the Order. The Order comes into force at 00:01am on Thursday 21st August 2025 and cease at 23.59pm on 22nd August 2025.
SCHEDULE: For their entire lengths: Sheepfolds North, Sheepfolds Road, Easington Street, Easington Street North, Easington Street North Back, Wilson Street, Wilson Street North Back, Brooke Street, Brooke Street North Back, Millennium Way, Stobart Street, Hay Street, Stadium Way, Vaux Brewery Way, A1018 North Bridge Street Southbound and Bridge Street Northbound. For both orders, during the Event diversions will be signposted via the adjacent highway network where applicable. The prohibitions shall apply at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. There are exemptions in the Order for police, fire and rescue services and ambulance vehicles on emergency call and vehicles being used in connection with the Event.
