What is happening?
THE A2070 TRUNK ROAD (ORBITAL PARK CROSSROADS AND AVOCET WAY) (PROHIBITION OF ENTRY, U-TURNS, SPECIFIED DIRECTION OF TRAVEL, AND NO PEDESTRIANS) ORDER 2025
National Highways Limited(a) gives notice that they have made an Order under powers conferred by Sections 1(1), 2(1-3) and 4(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on the A2070 Trunk Road in the District of Ashford in the County of Kent.
The Order was made on 8th August 2025 and comes into force 18th August 2025.
The effect of the Regulation is to formalise the restrictions in place following the conversion of the roundabout at Orbital Park to a signalised crossing and the development of Avocet Way junction as follows:-
1) to prohibit entry –
i) of any traffic in both eastbound and westbound main carriageways and their associated turning filters in a direction contra to the signed direction of travel at Orbital Park Crossroads; and
ii) entry of any southbound traffic in the northbound carriageway of Avocet Way at junction with the A2070;
2) to prohibit U-turns –
i) from the filter lanes turning into The Boulevard and Waterbrook Avenue at Orbital Park Crossroads;
ii) from the filter lanes turning into Avocet Way from the eastbound carriageway of the A2070; and
iii) from the westbound main carriageway of the A2070 at Avocet Way;
3) to specify that all traffic should proceed straight ahead on both main carriageways at Orbital Park Crossroads and Avocet Way, and that traffic should proceed in the direction indicated by signals and road markings in all the filter lanes; and
4) to prohibit pedestrians from the cyclists-only facility crossing the left-turn filter lanes leading from the northbound carriageway of Avocet Way into the westbound carriageway of the A2070.
A copy of the made Order and plans illustrating its effect may be inspected during office hours at –

until the end of the legally obligated period, 19th September 2025, being a minimum of 6 weeks from the date making the Order.

Any person wishing to question the validity of the order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the relevant enabling Act, or that a requirement of any such enabling Act or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with, may, within 6 weeks of the date on which the order was made, make application
for the purpose to the High Court, quoting the reference NH/SE/2025/A2070/ORBITAL PARK & AVOCET WAY.
