A19 Trunk Road and A184 Trunk Road, South Shields - Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order
What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 16A
THE A19 TRUNK ROAD AND THE A184 TRUNK ROAD
(GREAT NORTH RUN) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A19 Trunk Road and the A184 Trunk Road, in the District of South Tyneside, for the purpose of facilitating the Great North Run event.
The closure is expected to be in place between 9am and 5pm on Sunday 7 September 2025.
However, the closure may continue beyond this expected end time if necessary.
The effect of the Order will be to close the;
(i) A19 northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Lindisfarne Interchange;
(ii) A184 eastbound and westbound carriageways between the exit and entry slip roads at Whitemare Pool Interchange; and
(iii) A184 eastbound and westbound exit and entry slip roads at Whitemare Pool Interchange.
During which times suitably signed alternative routes will be available.
The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such an extent as will be indicated by traffic signs and will not apply to vehicles being used in connection with the event or by traffic officers, or to vehicles being used for
emergency purposes by the police, fire and rescue or ambulance services.
The Order comes into force on 6 September 2025 and will remain in force for as long as is necessary to facilitate the event.
