ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable works in relation to the Carlisle Southern Link Road to be carried out and the reconstruction and realignment of Newby West Roundabout (the “Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), from proceeding along the following sections of road:
1. A689 Newby West, Carlisle, from its junction with Orton Road Roundabout, extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 1 km to its junction with the former Newby West Roundabout.
A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted sections of the A689 Kingmoor, Kingsway, Greymoorhill Interchange, A7 Kingstown Road, Scotland Road, Hardwicke Circus and A595 Castle Way and Wigton Road.
2. A595 Carlisle, from its junction with Orton Grange Roundabout, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 2.6 km to its junction with the former Newby West Roundabout.
A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the U1134, Barras Brow, Barras Lane and Station Road, Dalston, B5299, Dalston Road and the A595 Wigton Road.

The Order will come into operation on 18 August 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months.
However, please note it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required between 2000 and 0600 hours over a 2 week period from 18 August 2025, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
