Stanhope, Temporary Road & Footpath Closures Due To Gas Main Replacement Works

What is happening?

THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF DURHAM (MARTIN STREET, CROSS STREET AND BONDSLIE WAY, STANHOPE) (TEMPORARY ROAD AND FOOTPATH CLOSURE) ORDER 2025

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular and pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road and footpath. Road closures (closed to vehicular traffic): Martin Street and Cross Street:

A 100 metre length of Martin Street from the side of Numbers 81 and 83 Front Street, extending northwards to the front of Number 20 Martin Street and a 38 metre length of Cross Street from the junction with Cross Hill, extending southwards to the side of the Town Hall. Footpath Closures (closed to pedestrian traffic): Bondsie Way:

A 68 metre length of footpath from the side of Number 58 to the side of Number 54; a 42 metre length to the front of Numbers 58 to 63; an 81 metre length to the front of Numbers 44 to 54; a 73 metre length to the front of Numbers 35 to 43; a 64 metre length from the side of Number 35 to the side of Number 29; a 74 metre length to the rear of Numbers 21 to 29; a 74 metre length to the front of Numbers 13 to 20; an 85 metre length from the side of Numbers 13 to the side of Number 4 and a 35 metre length to the front of Numbers 1 to 4 to enable gas main replacement works to be undertaken. Throughout the period of the closure, a diversion will be available to vehicular traffic for Martin Street via Graham Street, and for Cross Street via Cross Hill and A689 Front Street and any diversion for pedestrians for Bondsie Way will be signposted on site. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are to commence from 8am on Tuesday 19/8/2025 and are anticipated to be completed in 9 weeks (undertaken in 3 phases). On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
