What is happening?
SANDWELL METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Anne Road and Wellington Street, Smethwick) (Temporary Road Closures) Order 2025 has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Anne Road, which will be closed between the junctions of Booth Street and Woodburn Road. The order also intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Wellington Street, which will be closed between the junctions of Kitchener Street (southern side) and Vittoria Street (northern side). Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. A traffic diversion route for the Anne Road closure will be signed via Booth Street, Foundry Lane, Woodburn Road and vice versa. A traffic diversion route for the Wellington Street closure will be signed via Winson Green Road, Dudley Road, Grove Lane, Soho Way, Soho Street, Rabone Lane, Foundry Lane and vice versa. Anne Road – closed from 11th August - 12th September 2025. Wellington Street – closed from 8th - 26th September 2025. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 26/09/2025 effective from 11/08/2025 (24hr). Purpose – to facilitate access to lay duct for a new 132KV service cable by Excalon Ltd on behalf of National Grid Electricity Distribution.
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Wednesbury Oak Road, Tipton) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2025 has made an order to temporarily prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the footpath from the gable end of property No.15 Wednesbury Oak Road for a distance of 35 metres in a north-easterly direction. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 02/09/2025 effective from 11/08/2025 (24hr). Purpose – to facilitate access to install a new telecommunications cabinet by WHP Telecoms Ltd.
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Forge Lane, West Bromwich)
(Temporary Road Closure) and (Newton Road, West Bromwich) (Temporary No Right & No Left Turn Restrictions) Order 2025 has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Forge Lane, which will be closed at the junction of Newton Road and intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from turning right and left from Newton Road to Forge Lane. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. A traffic diversion route (westbound) will be signed via Newton Road, All Saints Way, The Expressway, Birmingham Road and vice versa. A traffic diversion route (eastbound) will be signed via Newton Road, Hamstead Road, Hamstead Hill, Handsworth Wood Road, Church Lane, Oxhill Road, Sandwell Road, Holyhead Road, Island Road, Birmingham Road and vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 05/09/2025 effective from 11/08/2025 (24hr). Purpose – to facilitate access to install a new duct run for a high voltage service cable by Excalon on behalf of National Grid Electricity Distribution.
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Upper Church Lane, Tipton)
(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025 has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Upper Church Lane, which will be closed between the junctions of High Street and Field Road (northern side). Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via High Street, Bloomfield Road, Hurst Lane, Sedgley Road West, Owen Street, Alexandra Road and vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 12/08/25 (8am - 6pm). Purpose – to facilitate access to repair a defect in the sewer line by Severn Trent Water.
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Cradley Road, Cradley Heath)
(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025 has made an order to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Cradley Road, which will be closed from its junction with Chester Road & Station Street for approximately 50 metres towards Woods Lane junction. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Bridge Street, Lyde Green, Maypole Hill, Cradley Forge, Forge Lane, Lower High Street, High Street and vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months but the work is expected to be completed by 12/08/2025 effective from 11/08/2025 (10pm - 6am).
