A1 Borehamwood to Bignells Corner – Hertfordshire - 50mph Speed Limit Proposal

THE A1 TRUNK ROAD (BOREHAMWOOD)

50 MILES PER HOUR PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT ORDER 2025

National Highways Limited (a) gives notice that they propose to make an Order under powers conferred by Sections 84(1)(a) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on the A1 Trunk Road in the County of Hertfordshire.

The effect of the Regulation would be to impose a 50 miles per hour speed limit on:–

1. The northbound carriageway of the A1 between a point approximately 149 metres north of the centreline of Rowley Lane overbridge (A5135) (the northern termination of the Transport for London jurisdiction) and a point approximately 1360 metres north of the centreline of Holmshill Lane (the commencement of the A1(M) Motorway Regulations);

2. The southbound carriageway of the A1 between a point approximately 342 metres south of the centreline of the M25 overbridge at M25 Junction 23 (the termination of the A1(M) Motorway Regulations) and a point approximately 1587 metres south of the centreline of Arkley Lane (the commencement of the Transport for London jurisdiction);

3. The road connecting from the northbound carriageway of the A1 to the roundabout at Bignells Corner Interchange (M25 Junction 23); and

4. Both lanes of the road connecting from the roundabout to the southbound carriageway of the A1 at Bignells Corner Interchange (M25 Junction 23).

Any person desiring to object or make representations to National Highways Limited’s proposal, should send, not later than 21st August 2025, a written statement of his or her representation or objection and of the grounds thereof to the person and address at the bottom of this notice, quoting the reference NH/SE/A1/BOREHAMWOOD/SPEED.

Information provided in response to this consultation, including personal information, may be subject to publication or disclosure in accordance with the access to information regimes (these are primarily the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004).
