What is happening?
CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(COME TOGETHER FESTIVAL) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 24 July 2025 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 14 (1) (b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991 and of all other powers them enabling in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:
2. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit all vehicles from proceeding on the following lengths of road -
a) Claremont Road, between its junctions with Queen Victoria Road and Barras Bridge.
b) Park Terrace, for its entire length.
3. The alternative route for vehicles will be via the existing highway network.
4. For the duration of the Order, it will be necessary to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following:
a) Rose Bridge, from its junction with Claremont Road/A167 slip road roundabout for 63 metres in a northeasterly direction.
5. For the duration of the Order, the bus gate on Percy Street leading onto Gallowgate will be suspended.
6. For the duration of the Order, no person shall cause or permit any vehicular traffic to turn right from (B1318) Great North Road onto Claremont Road.
7. For the duration of the Order, a temporary no stopping restriction will be introduced at the following locations:
i. Claremont Road, Southside, from its junction with Queen Victoria Road for 284 metres in a north-westerly direction.
ii. Claremont Road, Northside, from its junction with Queen Victoria Road from 36 metres in a north-westerly direction.
iii. Great North Road, both sides, from its junction with Barras Bridge to its junction with Blue House Roundabout.
iv. Jesmond Dene Road, both sides, between its junctions with Ilford Road and Blue House Roundabout.
v. Grandstand Road, both sides, between its junctions with Kenton Road
8. For the duration of the Order, a temporary One-Way restriction (North-west bound) will be introduced on Claremont Road from its junction with Hunters Road to its junction with Grandstand Road.
9. The Order is required to facilitate the “COME TOGETHER FESTIVAL” (“the Event”), to enable members of the public to watch the Event and to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.
10. Exemptions will be provided for police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call and vehicles associated with the event.
11. The Order will come into operation 20 August 2025 and will continue in force until 22 August 2025, as and when relevant traffic signs are displayed.
