Workington, Temporary One-Way Traffic Restrictions Due To Utility Works

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (A597 SOLWAY ROAD AND U2415 ANNIE PIT LANE, WORKINGTON) (TEMPORARY ONE-WAY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council has made an Order the effect of which is to:

  1. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding, other than in a north westerly direction along that section of the U2415 Annie Pit Lane, Workington from a point approx. 70 metres south east of its junction with the A597 Roundabout, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 30 m.

    Alternative Route for south-east bound vehicles: via the unrestricted section of Annie Pit Lane, B5296 Mossbay Road and A597 Solway Road.

  2. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding, other than in a north easterly direction along that section of the A597 Solway Road, Workington from its junction with the entrance to Solway Road Recycling Centre, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 540m.

    Alternative Route for south-west bound vehicles: via the unrestricted sections of Solway Road, A597, Main Road, High Harrington, A595, A596.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

NB. The restrictions detailed above will not run at the same time and will only be in force when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. Other traffic management provisions (traffic lights) may also be operational in the area to facilitate the Works.

The Order will come into operation on 4 August 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required between 4 August 2025 and 12 September 2025 and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
