West Leake Bridleway No.5 - Temporary Prohibition Due To Subsidence Caused By Animal Borrows In The Area

What is happening?

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF BRIDLEWAY
THE NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
(WEST LEAKE BRIDLEWAY NO.5) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION) CONTINUATION NO.4 ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State Transport in pursuance of the powers conferred by Sections 14 and 15 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 approves of ‘The Nottinghamshire County Council (West Leake Bridleway No.5) (Temporary Prohibition) Notice 2023’ (which came into force on 3 rd August 2023 and was continued in force by a Continuation Order which remained in force until 2 nd February 2024 and was further continued by a Continuation No.2 Order which remained in force until 2 nd August 2024 and was then continued by a Continuation No.3 Order which remains in force until 2nd August 2025 inclusive) being extended and continuing in force until 2nd August 2026 or until completion of the relevant works, whichever is the sooner.

The Order has the following effect:-

No person shall: -
(a) cause any horse to proceed,
in the following length of Bridleway at West Leake in the Borough of Rushcliffe :-
West Leake Bridleway No.5 (Stocking Lane), from the junction with Main Road, West Leake to its junction with West Leake Footpath No.6 and comprising a distance of approximately 970 metres.

AND NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that during the period of restriction there is no direct alternative route available for horse riders.

If the works are not completed within the above period the Order may be extended for a longer period with the further approval of the Secretary of State for Transport.

The prohibition is required to protect public safety as the surface of the bridleway is unstable due to subsidence caused by animal borrows in the area.
