THE A64 TRUNK ROAD (HEADLEY BAR TO TADCASTER BAR) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A64 Trunk Road, in the County of North Yorkshire, to enable bridge works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Monday 25th August 2025 for 22 weeks, or until completed.

The effect of the order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to:

(i) impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A64 eastbound carriageway from 1000 metres west of the exit slip road at Headley Bar to the entry slip road at Tadcaster Bar, a distance of 7000 metres;

(ii) impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A64 westbound carriageway from 1000 metres east of the exit slip road at Tadcaster Bar to the entry slip road at Headley Bar, a distance of 7200 metres;

(iii) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 9’6” in specified lanes of the A64 eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Headley Bar to the entry slip road at Tadcaster Bar, a distance of 6000 metres;

(iv) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 9’6” in specified lanes of the A64 westbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Tadcaster Bar to the entry slip road at Headley Bar, a distance of 6200 metres;

(v) impose an overtaking ban, on the A64 eastbound and westbound carriageways as described in (iii) and (iv);

(vi) close the laybys adjacent to the A64 eastbound carriageway approximately 370, 1440 and 2380 metres east of the exit slip road at Headley Bar;

(vii) close the laybys adjacent to the A64 eastbound carriageway approximately 690 and 1730 metres east of the entry slip road at Tadcaster Ings;

(viii) close the laybys adjacent to the A64 westbound carriageway approximately 930 and 1990 metres west of the exit slip road at Tadcaster Bar; and

(ix) close the laybys adjacent to the A64 westbound carriageway approximately 900 and 2880 metres west of the exit slip road at Tadcaster Ings;

It will also be necessary, between 8pm and 6am, starting Monday 8 September 2025, to close, at times during the works, the A64:

(x) eastbound and westbound carriageways as described in (iii) and (iv); and

(xi) eastbound entry and westbound exit slip roads at Tadcaster Bar;

During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.

Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 24th August 2025 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
