What is happening?

LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
(MAIN ROAD, GALGATE, LANCASTER CITY)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC) (No.2) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Lancashire County Council have made an Order under Section 14(1) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit traffic on the roads set out in this notice.
1. No person shall cause any motor vehicle to proceed over that length of Main Road, Galgate for a distance of approximately 20 metres either side of the rail bridge.
2. Nothing in this order shall apply to persons engaged in the carrying out of the works.
3. The prohibition will be operative from 2200 hours until 0600 on the following dates;
I. Sunday 3rd August 2025 until Monday 4th August 2025
II. Sunday 10th August 2025 until Monday 11th August 2025
4. Vehicular access for residents and Emergency Service vehicles will be maintained whenever and wherever possible. Pedestrian access to properties will always be maintained.
5. An alternative route for vehicular traffic affected by the closure is via:-
A6 Main Road – A6 Preston Lancaster Road – A6 Scotforth Road – A6 Greaves Road – A588 Ashton Road – A588 Lancaster Road – A588 Main Road – A588 Lancaster Road – B5272 Main Street – B5272 Garstang Road – B5272 Par Lane – B5272 Cockerham Road – A6 Lancaster New Road – A6 Lancaster Road – A6 Main Road and vice versa,
The temporary prohibition is necessary to allow de-vegetation works to be carried out on the retaining walls around the underbridge 78 (Four walls - one on each side of bridge).
