Rookhope, Temporary Footbridge Closure Due To Repair Or Renewal Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Rookhope Footbridge, Public Footpath No. 40 Stanhope Parish, Rookhope Ward, Rookhope) (Temporary Footbridge Closure) Order 2025

The Council on 25/7/2025 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following length of footbridge. A 10 metre length of Rookhope Footbridge that carries Public Footpath Number 40 Stanhope Parish, Rookhope Ward on Churchgarth Lane, Rookhope to enable repair or renewal works to be undertaken.

An alternative route will be available to pedestrian traffic from the western side of the closure, from Footpath 40 onto Footpath 42 (Weardale Way) then north and west via Footpath 42, or south and east via Footpath 37, to road C21 leading to the eastern side of the closure and vice versa.

The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The closure is required from Wednesday 30/7/2025 and for the duration of the works, anticipated to be up to 6 months. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
