Braintree, Temporary Road Closures Due To Public Safety & Utility Works
What is happening?

(Footpath 36, Greenstead Green) (Temporary Prohibition of Use) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the above Order made by Essex County Council, under s14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, has been continued in force with the consent of the Secretary of State for the Department for Transport until 31 December 2025
Effect of the order: To temporarily close Footpath 36, Greenstead Green in the District of Braintree, for 10 metres spanning the width of the damaged and dangerous bridge.
No alternative route available.
The closure commenced on 30 January 2025 to 29 July 2025 weather permitting, or where appropriate signs are showing and is required for the safety of the public due to a dangerous bridge. The bridge will be replaced once the crop has been harvested to permit large vehicles across private land.
(Factory Lane West, Halstead Urban) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Factory Lane West, Halstead Urban in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 25m south east of the junction with The Causeway for a distance of approximately 35m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 5th August 2025 for 1 night (21:00–06:00), or where stated on a valid permit (BC008W3F3CD14GSB — Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while underground cabling works are undertaken by Openreach.
An alternative route is available via Factory Lane West, Kings Road, Trinity Street, Bridge Street, High Street, Head Street, Colchester Road, Mallows Field, Parsonage Street, Factory Lane West and vice versa.
The Order came into effect on 17th July 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
