Saddler Street, Temporary Road Closure Due To Highway Reinstatement Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Saddler Street, Durham) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025

The Council on 18/7/2025 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following length of road. An 80 metre length of Saddler Street between its junctions with Market Place and Saddler Lane, Durham to enable highway reinstatement works to be undertaken.

An alternative route will not be formally signed to vehicular traffic. Access for emergency services will be afforded if required.

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on Monday 28/7/2025 and will be required between 6pm and 6am Sunday to Thursday (nights) for the duration of the works anticipated to be 4 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
