THE A14 TRUNK ROAD (BARTON SEAGRAVE TO THRAPSTON, NORTH NORTHAMPTONSHIRE)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 9346363) has made an Order on the A14 Trunk Road in North Northamptonshire, to enable bridge maintenance works to be carried out.
The effect of the Order, will be to, at different times, –
(1) impose a speed restriction of 50 miles per hour on –
(a) the westbound carriageway of the A14 between points 1100 metres and 100 metres east of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the slip road leading from the roundabout junction with the A45 and the A605 (Thrapston Interchange), at Thrapston; and
(b) the eastbound carriageway of the A14 between points 1100 metres and 250 metres west of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the link road leading from the A6116, at Islip;
(2) impose a speed restriction of 40 miles per hour on –
(a) the westbound carriageway of the A14 between points 100 metres east and 1600 metres west of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the slip road leading from Thrapston Interchange;
(b) the eastbound carriageway of the A14 between points 250 metres west and 1600 metres east of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the link road leading from the A6116, at Islip;
(c) the slip road leading to the westbound carriageway of the A14 from Thrapston Interchange; and
(d) the link road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A14 from the A6116, at Islip; and
(3) close –
(a) the eastbound carriageway of the A14 from its junction with the exit slip road leading to its roundabout junction with the A6 and Barton Road, at Barton Seagrave, to its junction with the entry slip road leading from Thrapston Interchange;
(b) the westbound carriageway of the A14 from its junction with the slip road leading to Thrapston Interchange, to its junction with the link road leading from the A6116, at Islip;
(c) any slip road or link road leading to or from the lengths of the A14 described in (3)(a) and (b) above.
(d) any layby adjacent to the lengths of the A14 described in (3)(a) and (b) above.
The work is expected to start on Monday 4 August 2025 and continue for approximately five months. Overnight closures will be in operation between 20:00 hours and 06:00 hours, there are also expected to be two full weekend closures between 20:00 hours on Friday and 06:00 hours on Monday during this period. The layby closures will be in operation from 14:00 hours on Monday 4 August 2025, for twenty-four hours per day, for the duration of the works. The Order will come into force on 28 July 2025. Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions and closures. Vehicles being used for special forces purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions, and vehicles being used in connection with the works or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures.
Diversion routes using the A45, the A6 and alternative junctions of the A14 will be signed.
