Carlisle - Temporary Road Closures due to Gateway Project works

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL

(SOUTH GEORGE STREET AND WATER STREET CARLISLE)

(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable works to be carried out in relation to the Carlisle Station Gateway Project (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of roads:

South George Street, Carlisle from the Victoria Viaduct Underpass its junction with Water Street, and Water Street, Carlisle from its junction with South George Street extending in an overall southerly direction to its junction with Robert Street.

There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles. A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

N.B. Vehicle access/egress to and from business premises and land which is located within the restricted sections of road will be maintained and managed on site, as and when works allow and is deemed safe to do so by the contractors on site.

The Order will come into operation on 4 August 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months, as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
