What is happening?

READING BOROUGH COUNCIL

(FOBNEY STREET & VARIOUS ROADS) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily suspend the parking bays and impose a no waiting or loading/unloading at any time restriction on the lengths of road specified in the Schedule on the dates and times shown therein, for all vehicles except vehicles used by the works company and their contractors. The Order will come into force from 21 - 30 July 2025. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary to facilitate culvert inspections.

(VARIOUS ROADS, READING) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS FOR RESURFACING) ORDER 2025

This notice supplements the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order made on 29 May 2024 to allow carriageway resurfacing and core sampling works to be carried out. Reading Borough Council has made an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near various roads for the purpose of carrying out carriageway resurfacing and core sampling.

The effect of the Order will be to temporarily suspend various traffic restrictions on the lengths of roads listed in the Schedule below. These suspensions will be implemented when indicated, using rolling road closures and in accordance with traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

Signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the duration of works. Access for pedestrians and emergency services will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 21 July 2025 and will remain in force until 8 October 2025 or until completion of the works, whichever is sooner. However, it will continue to have legal effect for up to 18 months unless extended by the Secretary of State for Transport.

(HAGLEY RD) (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily close that length of Hagley Rd at its junction with Elgar Rd South. The Order will come into force from 23-24 July 2025. Should the works take longer than expected the closure will remain in force until the works are completed with a maximum order duration of 18 months. The Order is necessary to facilitate the installation of telecommunication ducts. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout.

(KENAVON DRIVE FOOTBRIDGE) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to close Kenavon Drive Footbridge to all traffic and suspend parking bays on Avon Place, 20 metres adjacent to 141-145 Cumberland Road from 07:30 to 17:30. The Order will come into force from 28/07/2025 to 04/08/2025. Should the works take longer than expected the closure of the footbridge and parking bay suspension will remain in force to a duration not exceeding 18 months or until the works are completed, whichever is earlier. The order is necessary in the interest of public safety whilst carrying out maintenance and repair to the footbridge.

(BUS LANES) (A33) ORDER 2018 AMENDMENT ORDER 202*

Reading Borough Council under Sections 1(1), 2, 2(1), 3, 4(2), 45 and 46 and 124 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) and all other enabling powers, after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Paragraph 20 of Schedule 9 to the Act as amended proposes to make the above Order.

The general nature and effect of the Order will be to amend the Borough of Reading (Bus Lanes) (A33) Order 2018 by introducing a restriction on London Street, allowing access only to buses, cycles, and all taxis. Currently, the southbound bus lane extending from a point 76 metres south of its junction with Queen’s Road to a point 54 metres north of its junction with London Road is designated exclusively for bus use only, with no exemptions.

All representations to the proposed amendment order must be made in writing and must specify the grounds on which they are made and must be sent to arrive before by no later than 8 August 2025. Objections received after this date may not be considered.

(CRESCENT ROAD) (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council intend to make an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily close the length of Crescent Road from its junction with Eastern Avenue to its junction with Hamilton Road. If made, the Order will come into force from 26 July - 15 August 2025. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary for a major footpath upgrade works.

(TRAFFORD ROAD) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council intend to make an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily impose a no stopping or waiting restriction on Trafford Road in the bays outside Units 1 - 3 at Japanese Hybrid Car Parts and in the opposite bays outside Collards. If made, the Order will come into force from 28 July - 1 August 2025. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary for creating a metered supply to a fire hydrant.

(A33) (TEMPORARY SPEED REDUCTION 30MPH) ORDER 2025

Reading Borough Council has made a further Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, because works are being or are proposed to be executed on near the road.

The effect of which will be to temporarily reduce the speed limit to 30mph along the A33 between Berkeley Avenue overbridge to Bennet Road in both directions. The Order is necessary to implement the works associated with the South Reading A33 Bus Rapid Transit scheme as part of the Bus Service Improvements Programme. The Order will come into operation on 25 July 2025 and will remain in force until 24 July 2025 or until completion of the works, whichever is sooner. However, it will continue to have legal effect for up to 18 months unless extended by the Secretary of State for Transport.
